Nancy was my son, Alex's, 2nd grade teacher. He was in her last class and when she retired, I wrote this little song which the children sang to her. She was a dear person, touching countless lives while shining her light in many directions.

Twinkle, twinkle near and far, Mrs. Johnson, you're a star.
You are nice and you are kind. Something good you always find.
Twinkle, twinkle near and far, Mrs. Johnson, you're a star.

Working hard, there's much to do. We have learned a lot from you.
Adding, trading, take-away, counting, money, time-of-day.

Write a story, read a book, at the black board, take a look.
Daily math, analogy, oral language there we see.

We have learned about the loon with its eerie, piercing tune;
Studied whales and dinosaurs. Learned their habits and much more.

There are changes in us all. We have grown since last fall.
What a difference you have made in our time in 2nd grade.

Thanks for all you've done for us. Pardon if we make a fuss.
Now you're teaching time is done. Please be happy and have fun.
Twinkle, twinkle near and far. Mrs. Johnson, you're a star.

I know she shines on.

Not only was Nancy a classy lady, but she was an excellent teacher. I loved working with her because I always learned so much about ways to do things and how to make second grade children feel special. She was especially helpful when a group of fifth and sixth graders did a history project about Frogtown. Thank you, Nancy. You hold a special spot in my heart.

Nancy was a wonderful lady, she always had a smile on her face and was always so cheerful and fun to chat with when Laura and I came to visit. Nancy, you will be missed. You are such a lovely lady inside and out. Heaven has gained an amazing angel.
