Nancy Lazenby Marable Eaker, 86, of Spartanburg, SC died Tuesday, June 28, 2022. Born June 27, 1936 in Asheville, NC, she was the daughter of the late Harold Lawrence and Katherine West Lazenby, and the widow of Troy T. Eaker of Spartanburg.

Nancy attended Asheville City Schools, graduating from Lee H. Edwards High School with the class of 1954. She received an Associate's degree in business from Cecil's Business College in 1956.

Nancy later moved to Greenville, SC, where she worked with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company while simultaneously taking law courses at Furman University.

Later in Nancy's career, she worked in the Spartanburg County Court House for the Department of Juvenile Justice as a probation officer for 20 years. After retirement, Nancy volunteered for the City of Spartanburg Public Safety for over 25 years and headed many committees. She was their "Distinguished Citizen of the Year" in 2002.

Nancy was the current president of the Spartanburg Chapter of AARP. She received their Andrus Award in 2008. She also taught classes on Elder Abuse and Identity Theft to many church senior groups. Nancy was a volunteer member of Appalachian Counsel on Government Region's Obudsman Program at the Magnolia Place in Spartanburg and became a Volunteer Recruiter for this program.

Nancy volunteered for 40 years at Mountainview Nursing Home, continuing until her death, participating in the nursing home's fall festival and many special programs for the residents.

Nancy was active in the Spartanburg Regional 55+ Program, and the Upstate Senior Network. She worked with others to offer programs for veterans, widows and widowers.

Nancy continually worked with various organizations and agencies that she came in contact with, offering resource information and assistance. She strived to ensure that residents had mobility, knowledge of and access to home and community-based services and consumer protections.

In 2018, Nancy received the Distinguished Community Award as one of "Spartanburg's Icons" at the Piedmont Club for her continuous dedication to the elderly in the community.

Nancy was definitely given a heart for the elderly. Her greatest joy was pouring her life into other people. Many times, Nancy would see the picture of a homeless person in the newspaper and by sunset of that day, they would have safe shelter and a roof over their heads, thanks to her giving heart.

Nancy is survived by her son Greg Marable (Tammy) and one grandson Austin. Other relatives include her sister, Jennie Cook Padgett (Al); niece, Lisa R. Shehan (Rick); and twin niece and nephew, Katherine and Edward Shehan. Nancy was recently predeceased by one brother, Harold David Lazenby (Elizabeth) of Spartanburg, SC.

Nancy was formerly a member of Southside Baptist Church in Spartanburg and attended Legacy Outreach at Beaver Hills in Roebuck, SC.

Visitation for Nancy Eaker will be held at 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM Sunday, July 3, 2022, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
