Nancy Poindexter Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 25, 2024.
Nancy Jean (Facer) Poindexter passed away the morning of Monday April 22, 2024 after a brave battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Nancy was born in Sanford, Maine on May 30, 1947 before moving to Southern California, where she spent her childhood and a portion of her young adult life. A graduate of Sylmar High School (Sylmar, CA), Nancy moved back to Maine with her partner, Betsy, in 1981 to raise her family. In addition to raising their children, together Nancy and Betsy operated a small sheep farm and a successful telecommunications business in Troy, Maine. Nancy also worked as a phlebotomist from 2006 to her retirement in 2014, where she especially excelled at working with young cancer patients.

Nancy was an avid reader, loved to be in her garden, and enjoyed both knitting and crocheting. Family was everything to Nancy - she frequently enjoyed large family gatherings where she was often able to showcase her wicked sense of humor.

Nancy is predeceased by both of her parents, Charles James Facer and Theresa (Therrien) Facer, and two of her siblings, sister Patricia Facer-Blythe and brother Thomas Facer. She is survived by her partner, Elizabeth (Betsy) Kirk; three children: Kelly (Poindexter) Hewins of Searsport, James Poindexter of Cambridge, Robert Poindexter of Bethlehem Pennsylvania; six grandchildren: Zachary Hewins, wife Julia Hewins; Adam LaFreniere, spouse Steph LaFreniere; Rebecca Dicintio; Ashley Black; Mark Young; and Addison Poindexter; and one great-grandchild, Gabriel LaFreniere.

At Nancy's request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Instead, she asked that you plant something beautiful.

Aunt Nancy, thank you for all the childhood memories you've given me growing up. From the sleep overs, the laughs, to the greatest summer I've ever had. Visiting you all back east the summer I was 16 is a core memory I'll always hold near and dear to my heart!
When Mom passed and you and Aunt Ellen came to help. You helped put me at ease with your presence, your sense of humor and just playing some cards.
While it's tough I know you are back to your old self again with the whole gang Grandma, Grandpa, mom, Uncle Tom, Aunt Pat, Uncle Bud, Vicci and Shandelle having the best of time! Give them all a hug for me.
Love always,
your God Daughter.

Nancy taught me so many life lessons. I turned to her so often when I relocated from California. She was a teacher and mentor for just about everything I´ve learned and done in my adult life. She was the best big sister any girl could ask for. I´m gonna miss her wit and humor, but mostly just our talks about life.

Give Mom and Dad a hug for me, as well as Patty and Tom. Love you....
