She was a tenacious friend, fearless advocate for fairness, collegiality and family. As an editor, she called out smallness of mind and bigotry. Because of her, some small part of the shame of our unacknowledged privilege has been erased. Thank you Nancy McMeans Richey. We loved you.

Nancy I met as a neighbor in Eugene. She was next door. Little did I know that we would become such friends. She was quiet with joy in abundance and a happy helpful person. One day she asked me if I could take her to urgent care. Everything okay, yes. Then we had an organic lunch near Univ of Oregon. So began our kitchen table talks, so intelligent and engaging. I loved her immediately. She will be in my heart to the end. Thanks Crispin.

She was a great friend from 1957 to now, 2022. I will miss her greatly as a gentle anchor to my years at UT. Her characteristic soft chuckle with a patina of kind irony was a soothing agent mixing freely with everything and everybody memorable at the University and in Austin during the 2nd half of the 20th century. Thanks for the photo and obit, suitably elegant. I wish I could be there on September 11, her birthday.

Nancy had a unique gift for story telling that she so generously shared with her many friends bringing past memories to life and capturing what it means to be human. I miss her.
