Nancy Scala Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 31, 2024.
Nancy E. Scala, 67, of Virginia Beach, peacefully transitioned from this world in the tender embrace of her loved ones on the early morning of May 8, 2024, following a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born and raised in Staten Island, NY, Nancy moved to Virginia Beach in 1995. From serene days fishing at her lake with friends to lively BBQs by the pool, Nancy's days were filled with laughter and love, and especially cherished moments spent with her grandchildren, their Play-Doh creations weaving colorful memories. Her adventurous spirit found solace in countless cruises with her wife, each voyage a testament to her zest for life, as they sailed through horizons together.

Left to honor her memory are her beloved wife Valerie Londregan, daughter Kimberly Scala, stepdaughters Erin Berens (Donnie), and Jamie Calhoun (Joey), grandchildren Aidan, Madison, Aaron, Chase, Georgia, Jordan, and Eleanor, sisters Carol Perillo (Francis), Gayle Scala, and Joyce Mosher. A heartfelt thank you to Nancy's sisters, whose unwavering support and assistance were immeasurable during the challenging days Nancy faced while battling cancer. Their presence and care provided strength and comfort, demonstrating the power of family bonds during difficult times. Nancy also leaves behind a large number of friends and relatives who were touched by her warmth and kindness. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Marion Kinsella (Carey Chamberlin), who was not only a cherished friend for nearly 30 years but also walked through this heartbreaking experience with Nancy and her family. Their gratitude and love for her care and support through this hard time cannot be expressed.

Nancy was predeceased by her beloved son Timothy John "TJ" Myers, parents Betty and Gene Scala, partner Dale Lee, and many cherished pets. Nancy's legacy of love and friendship lives on, a beacon of light in the hearts of all who knew her, truly a loss to the world, yet her spirit continues to brighten the lives of those she touched.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Nancy's memory can be made to The American SIDS Institute and/or Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

Thinking of Nancy today and I remember how each year she would go through facebook and other photos and make these amazing calendars for people. She took so much time making them right and I absolutely loved it and looked forward to it each year. I miss you Nance!

I have many fond memories of growing up with Nancy as my older sister. She was very popular in HS, which helped pave the way for me with my teachers. She taught me how to catch and throw a baseball, which I'll never forget. She was "King of the Pogo Stick" and was always the clown at family get-togethers. She went through many of the most difficult things one can go through in life, and I was always amazed how strong she was to endure so much loss. I'm not surprised she faced her final battle against this insidious disease- which also took her grandmother- with such poise and bravery, while engulfed by her loved ones. She wouldn't have wanted it any other way, I'm sure. If you can leave this world while leaving a positive mark on those you leave behind, you've led a good life- and it looks and sounds like she did this in spades. Rest in a well-deserved Peace. I will always cherish your memory.

We used to go to Va. beach together. We loved getting knocked over by the waves until we got older & could barely get up again. We would laugh so much, which didn´t help our predicament!

I remember Nancy from our NLG days. Both Nancy and Val were like peas in a pod. I never saw one without the other. Both very welcoming with open arms and open hearts. That´s the memory I will have with Nancy. Always a smile on her face. She will be missed but never forgotten. She has that embracing personality.

I have Nancy's cellphone number in my contacts list and keep wanting to send her a message. It is very hard to admit that she has gone. I admired her love of animals, friends, and family. She was a lovely friend who will be forever missed, however, knowing her battle is over and she is at peace, brings some comfort.

Nancy was just one of those people who you could feel the love and joy she had for life, family and friends. Nancy, myself and Karilyn were called the "midget mafia" at our old workplace. Oh the laughs we shared! Val and Nancy´s love story is one of my favorites and Val, I know you miss her so much. I just can´t imagine.
I was so glad to reconnect with both of you and am happy we had one last FaceTime chat together. Nancy-I miss you and until we see each other again... rest easy friend.
Love to you, Val!

I don't really know where to start. I can remember telling you that we were moving back to Virginia Beach and looking for a house. You made sure to tell me that I couldn't live more than 5 minutes away...lol...who knew it was going to be around the corner? The little time we got to spend together meant the world to me. Playing LRC, watching the air show from your backyard , celebrating the 4th of July, and our favorite, fishing, and just getting together for dinner. Simone and I went from being friends to family. You always made us feel welcomed and loved. I will always carry a piece of you in my heart, Nancy, for this wasn't goodbye; it was see you later. RIP, my sweet friend.

Nancy never met a stranger. Everyone that she met loved her instantly. She was kind and giving always. She would do anything for anyone without batting an eye. The world is a better place because Nancy was here. She will be surely missed.

Nancy was someone who was a person who supported you, a loyal friend, an ear to listen when you needed it, a joy to be around, and a co-worker like no other. I will always cherish the cookouts, the game nights, our trip to NYC pride in 2006 (the pictures I've posted), and the welcoming personality she gave everyone. She was one of kind and will be greatly missed.
