Ames - passed away at Mercy One in Des Moines on October 5. She was born July 12, 1950 to John and Jean Hamilton in Kingsley, Iowa. She graduated from Greene High School in Greene, Iowa in 1968 and after she graduated Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa. She married Terry Spiess on June 17, 1972 in Britt, Iowa and welcomed their children, Tory and Tanya. The couple made their home in Nevada and then in Ames. Terry worked as an electrician for Mary Greeley and Nancy worked at Iowa State University as a secretary for many years. In 1993 they started Terry's Electric.

Nancy was a loving mother, grandmother, and sister and would see the best in everyone. She enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and going on trips to Disney World. Nancy will be missed by all those who knew her.

She is survived by her children, Tory (Eva) Spiess and Tanya (Dane) Larson of Ames, her grandchildren, Audrey, Katie, and Wyatt Spiess and Tyler Larson, a brother, Tim (Karen) Hamilton of Manly, Iowa, a sister, Colleen Hamilton of Ames, and a nephew and niece, Jahan Hamilton and Anjali Hamilton of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Terry, her parents, and a sister, Laura Hamilton. A memorial service has been planned for October 29th, 2023 at 1pm for the family followed by a gathering for family and friends at 2pm at her home, 5630 Arrasmith Trail, Ames. Memorial contributions may be made to the family for a tree at Ada Hayden Park, University of Iowa Children's Hospital, or Mercy NICU in Des Moines.
