Nancy Sunderman-Elert Obituary

Published by The Macomb Daily from Aug. 24 to Aug. 25, 2016.
Age 83, of Roseville, Michigan, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt passed away Saturday, August 20, 2016, at her daughter's home in Jensen Beach, Florida, surrounded by family members. Nancy was born September 30, 1932, in Kane, Pa. She was the daughter of the late Florian Lewis and Anna Mary Reams. She graduated from Denby High School in Detroit, then worked at Chrysler Corp., and later was versed in Real Estate. She has resided in Roseville for over 60 years and retired from the City of Roseville as Deputy Clerk after many years of service. The highlight of Nancy's career was administering elections throughout the years. She also served on the General Civil Service Board, the Beautification Committee and was a Board Member of the Planning Commission. In 2008 Nancy was recognized by the City of Roseville Mayor and Council with a Certificate of Service Award for her outstanding dedication; and most recently, in December of 2015 she was presented with an Award Clock for being a Dedicated Volunteer from 1995 – 2015. Nancy's civil involvement and community support are part of the legacy she leaves behind. Nancy was a member of St. Faustina Catholic Church in Warren, and had been a member of St. Edmonds and Holy Innocents. Her greatest joy was being with her sisters, children, grandchildren, great-granddaughter, nieces, nephews and friends. She would visit all six of her children and spend time doing home improvement projects and yard work. She loved shopping with her sisters and spending time with relatives and friends, whether socializing or working. She was like a ""mom"" to many and loved by all. Nancy was such a beautiful person inside and out. ""She was an extraordinary wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend"". She will be remembered for her loving, caring, supportive ways. She is survived by her husband, Charles J. Elert; and loving children of the late Eugene Sunderman, Joni Williamson (Danny), Deborah, Lori, Edward (Phyllis), Tony (Lisa), Brian (Erin); beloved grandchildren, Cynthia Bennett (Robert), Jennifer Sunderman, Chelsia Tiger (Clyde), Joshua Whitwell (Deirdre), Krystal Graziosi (Anthony), Amy Sunderman, Brandon Sunderman, Joshua Sunderman, Brian Sunderman; precious great-granddaughter, Raevyn Tiger; stepchildren, Charles J. Elert II, Bridget Elert, Nikki Elert (Mike Tyrkus); cherished sisters, Elizabeth Willmer, Ann Marie Toerper (John); nieces and nephews, Susan Piccirilli (Anthony), Gari Willmer (Beth), Patricia Thompson (Denise), Mary Holdwick (Ray), Anne Anguilm (Jim) and Mari Ann Vargo (Martin). Mom, I will miss you forever - I miss you every day and wish I could talk with you one more time. I have so many memories of you and our extended family having pool parties together, sitting on the picnic table so that people could see we were home and they could visit. You really were the best! Love you. Joni

It's hard to believe it's been 4 years now since we lost you. The loss is very hard some days, and I still cry thinking about talking to you on the phone and missing you. Love you - always.

So sorry to hear about Nancy's passing. She was a mentor to me and I always enjoyed her company. I know she loved her family and that she will missed by all of them. Please let me know if there is going to be a memorial service in Michigan.

My mother was "Mom" to so many of the "kids" we grew up with. Almost everyone at RHS would call her that. She will be greatly missed by all of us. Thank you for your prayers.
