Naomi McALPINE Obituary

Published by Ottawa Citizen from Sep. 29 to Sep. 30, 2011.
McALPINE, Naomi Marie (nee Deady)
March 19, 1931 - September 27, 2011
Naomi died peacefully, surrounded by her family, at the Elisabeth Bruyere Health Centre, Ottawa, after a long battle with cancer. She will be sadly missed by her husband, James Francis "Frank" McAlpine after 61 years of marriage, and by her children Gordon (Heather), Cathy, Isabel, Larry (deceased 1979), John and Brian (Lori), her grandchildren Sean (Cherie), James (deceased 2011) (Jessica), Michael, Conor, Maura and Maeve Kehoe, Jed, Shea and Meredith; and by her great-grandchildren William, Jason, Ryan and Kieran. Naomi was a life member (50+ years) of the Catholic Women's League, a long-time volunteer at St. Patrick's Home and a faithful Parish worker at St. Georges and our Lady of Fatima Parishes. Naomi was born in Maynooth, Ontario, the daughter of John J. and Agnes (Gannon) Deady, the youngest of six girls- Mary (Frank Coe), Eileen (Ned Fitzgerald), Clare (Pete Fitzgerald), Marguerite (Pat O'Brien), and Mildred (all deceased). Frank and Naomi were married in St. Ignatius Parish, Maynooth on September 28,1950 and moved to Ottawa the same year - where she became a holy wife, mother and devoted homemaker for the next 61 years (less one day), bringing peace and joy wherever she went and to whomever she encountered. May her reward be great in Heaven! Friends may pay respects at the Kelly Funeral Home, 2313 Carling Avenue (west of Carlingwood) Friday, September 30 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral to Our Lady of Fatima Church, 153 Woodroffe Avenue, Saturday for Mass of Christian Funeral at 11:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Pinecrest Cemetery, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa. On behalf of Naomi, the family extends sincere thanks to her pastor Rev. Jeffrey King, to the Doctors and staff of the Elisabeth Bruyere Health Centre, the CCAC, the Palliative Care Outreach Team, and special thanks to Dr. Paul Wheatly-Price, Ottawa Hospital, and Dr. Lisa Lezack, family physician, University of Ottawa Health Services. For those who wish to honour Naomi's memory, donations may be made to the Elisabeth Bruyere Health Centre Foundation, 43 Bruyere Street. Ottawa, ON, K1N 5C8.

Dear Mr. McAlpine and family
Please accept my sincere sympathy at this sad time for you all. I remember Mrs. McAlpine as a kind, gentle, quiet lady. I still remember her telling my parents the story of when Mr. McAlpine was caught breaking into his own house!
I know my parents really enjoyed the times they had together at the neighbourhood parties as well. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Take care. Joan Hoskins (Butterill)

To Frank and family,
My deepest sympathies and prayers for you and your family. I can still remember all the times that Frank you played for us as young Irish dancers and Naomi who came so many times and at the Irish dances and picnics. So sorry to hear of her passing, I have fond memories of the time we were all up at your cottage and the great slide that extended down to the lake. Thank you both for being a part of my life and memories.
