NASEEB BAROODY Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 12, 2010.
Dr. Naseeb Bashara Baroody, Jr. FLORENCE - Dr. Naseeb Bashara Baroody, Jr. joined the Church Triumphant on February 10th, 2010. A memorial service for N.B. will be held at 3:00 pm on Monday, February 15 in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church, Florence, S.C. The family will receive friends at the reception in the church Fellowship Hall immediately following the service. Dr. Baroody was preceded in death by his parents, Naceib Bashara Baroody and Salwa Baroody, his brother, Joseph A. Baroody. He was married to Margaret Hinson Baroody and the late Ramona Samra Baroody. He is survived by children Alan Baroody (Suzanne), Laura Baroody Thrush (Roger), Lisa Baroody Culpepper (David), Luke Hinson (Kear-ney), Kip Hinson (May), and Julian Hinson. He has eighteen grand children and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Adele Baroody Kassab, Florence Baroody Kassab and mother-in-law, Sadie Brockington. Dr. Baroody was born April 22, 1924 in Florence, South Carolina to Lebanese parents. His undergraduate work was done at The Citadel and Texas A&M. He obtained a post-graduate medical degree from Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After residency in internal medicine and training in cardiology, he entered a private practice in Florence, South Carolina where he practiced for thirty-five years. Retiring from Florence Diagnostic Associates in 1990, Dr. Baroody joined the teaching faculty of McLeod Family Medicine Residency Program, serving until 2009. For the past 20 years he participated in short term medical missions with his wife Margaret to Ecuador, India, Belarus and Harpur Mission Hospital in Manouf, Egypt. In Florence, N.B. was co-founder of Mercy Medicine, a free clinic providing medical care for the underserved. N.B. was an elder of First Presbyterian Church and teacher of the Good Samaritan Sunday School Class. He published many studies in the field of medicine, and was president of the South Carolina Heart Association as well as director of State Heart Clinic. In 1970, he received the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. A contemporary and student of Ansel Adams, his interest in photography began when he was a child. He was an author of an award winning book of fine art photography with a second book to be released in April. While these details offer a glimpse into the life of a beloved man, the essence of his story was captured in his relationship with his Lord, which he shared with his family and friends. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 800 Park Ave, Florence, SC 29501, or to Mercy Medicine, 514 S. Dargan St, Florence, SC 29506.

Dr. N. B. was one of the finest men I've ever known. I worked for him for a number of years and can honestly say that he was the kindest, most considerate and best employer I've ever had. I have some of his prints both black & white and color and will always treasure them. To his family just know that he loved all of you and we who came into contact with him loved him also. You will be missed

While I never met N.B. I had seen his wondeful photography and heard so much about him from his stepson Julian. This is an incredible testament to a man of God who obviously cherished his Lord, family, friends and his life. My prayers go out to all who will love and miss him until they meet him again in Glory....God Bless you.

Dr. N.B. was one of the most caring, compassionate, and loving persons I will ever know. You never heard him say an unkind word about anyone. I will miss him dearly, and I will treasure always the beautiful prints he gave to me while employed at McLeod. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

N.B. was a kind and gentle man. Those words will always follow his name. He really did leave the world a better place than he found. You can't do better than that.

Very sorry to hear of your loss, a very fine physician, I had the pleasure and honor to meet a few years ago, while seeking care at Mercy Medicine. The fine staff there will certainly miss him, he was charming and caring and I still remember what he said about my diagnosis.

Also as a member of the Lebanese community, N.B. was nine years my senior....just that much older to be one of my roll models and mentors. A kind and gentle man who always had time to listen and offer words of encouragement and praise. Now that he has made the journey to be with his Lord, my wife Anne and I offer our love and prayers to his family and celebrate his life.

Papa was my second father. From him I learned so much, but most importantly, how to love unconditionally.

A sweet, kind, gentle man. Twinkling eyes, easy laugh…charming. He reflected the Lord’s light in many ways and directions. I miss knowing he’s here.

Dr. Baroody was our family's physician for many years. He was the best doctor we ever had but more than his earthly gift as a physician, was his passion for sharing his love for his Lord and Saviour. I was never so proud as when he gave me a picture he took in the Garden of Gethsemane. This was many years ago and I still cherish it. I will look forward to seeing him in Heaven. God bless his entire family.

February 12, 2010

He was my photography buddy, fellow pen collector, avid supporter of my causes. We talked theology, politics, even death and dying. I'm forever grateful for all the photographs he gave me. "meddie"

Dr. Baroody,
I know you are rejoicing in heaven right now. I will surely miss you but I know I will see you again one day when my Lord calls me home. You impacted my life more than you know. My prayers to the family and I pray that the Lord will surround you with His love and peace during this time. With deepest sympathy,
