Natividad Martinez Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 22, 2024.
Natividad "Tiva" Consuelo Martinez ended her earthly journey on February 18th at her residence in Premont at the age of 85. She was the last family member of her "Martinez" siblings. Her parents were Jose Maria B. Martinez Sr. and Gregoria Guerro Martinez who had lived most of their lives in the Cruz Calle Community in Duval County and moved to Premont in 1970. Tiva was born on September 8, 1938, and was the youngest of six

brothers and one sister. She graduated from Premont High School and Texas A&l University in Kingsville, Texas with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Master's Degree in Secondary Education. She taught in the schools of La Joya, Port Isabel, Hebbronville and for the last13 years in Premont, Texas for a total of thirty-two years.

She was a parishioner of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Premont, Texas and taught Religion classes and was also a Church Lector. Tiva was a Charter member of the local Catholic Daughters and served as the first regent when it was organized in 1993. She served as District Deputy for five years, as a financial secretary and recording secretary. As a teacher she was a member of the National Education Association, NEA, Texas State Teachers Association and the local Pre-Fal Retired Teachers Association.

She was a loyal fan of the San Antonio Spurs Basketball Team and watched every single game on television. It seemed through the years, she acquired a lot of trivia about the San Antonio Spurs and loved to talk about the Spurs with relatives and friends, reading novels, the daily Corpus Christi Caller, and Spanish novelas were some of the things she enjoyed. Most of all she loved dining out so she wouldn't have to cook. Her specialty was baking and taking desserts to family gatherings, among the family she was known for her Nieman Marcus Cheesecake, chocolate cake and fruit cocktail cake.

She is preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, Eloy Sr. (Maria Perez Martinez), Juan

Sr. (Gloria Gomez Martinez) Laurence (Lucille Gonzalez Martinez) Luis (Guadalupe Hinojosa Martinez) Roosevelt, Jose Maria Jr. (Guadalupe Rodriguez Martinez) and one

sister, Esperanza M. Sanchez and a brother-in-law Lorenzo H. Sanchez.

She is survived by sister-in-law Maria Consuelo Garcia Martinez, 41 nieces and nephews, 97 great nieces and nephews, 145 great great nieces and nephews and 26 great great great nieces and nephews.

The viewing wil be held at 9AM. . Saturday February 24, 2024, at the St Theresa Catholic Church in Premont, with at Rosary to begin at 10 A.M. Funeral mass will start at 11 A.M.
