Dr. Navnitlal Parikh

Dr. Navnitlal Manibhai Parikh (Dada) was born on December 18, 1922 in Umret. He passed on Sunday morning, August 3 at the age of 91, in Baroda, India. He is survived by his three children, Pallavi Parikh of Hudson, MA, Nitin Parikh of Baroda, India and Nautam Parikh of Queens, NY. His wife, Jyostana Parikh, passed in July 2006. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. We are all very thankful that he did not suffer much. In his 20s, Dada had been afflicted with cancer in his leg. After a diagnosis that may have ended with an amputation, he found a physician that believed his leg was worth saving. He underwent 13 surgeries to save his limb. Beyond that diagnosis at an early age, he was in pretty good health up until a month ago. It was his saving grace that he found that physician, as Dada was fond of long walks up until about 3 weeks ago. Dada's curiosity and love of learning was evident to all through the course of his life. Dada did his BS and MS in MS University in Baroda, studying Chemistry and Soil Chemistry, respectively. He was then invited to England for his Doctorate of Science at Newcastle Upon Tyne. Upon his return to India, he took a position as Department Chair of Soil Chemistry at Agriculture College in Kethivadi.
