Ned Walter Bechthold

My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Bechthold family. I am so grateful for the opportunity that Ned gave me to work at Payne & Dolan to help me pay for college. I'll always remember his generosity and sense of humor. Rest in peace.

Ned will truly be missed, he was not only a mentor to my success as a business owner but a great friend whom has always been there for myself as well as my business. I would not be in the position I am in business or life if it wasn't for him. I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing but I know he is in a better place and even though he is not a phone call away I believe he will continue to watch over all of us and make sure we are doing our best.

As a happily retired employee of Payne & Dolan, Inc. for 29 years, I'd like to thank Ned for being instrumental in paving the way for hiring minorities. I learned so much in all the various jobs and training schools and met so many great people. He was truly ahead of his time. My sympathies to the family.

Mr. Bechthold, as I referred to him growing up, will forever be an inspiration to me. As my Indian Scouts leader, he always provided thoughtful and enduring guidance. In my teenage years, I will never forget the time we were snowmobiling in the Uuupper, when he told to me to pull over as he wanted to get a picture of me next to a sign. The sign had one word, PARADISE. After taking the picture he said, “Schiedey, this is true paradise up here, of which many will never experience. Take it in and never forget about the true beauty that nature has to offer.” Mr. Bechthold also provided me summer jobs working for Zenith Tech, of which I learned a great deal…to appreciate hard work. That job financed my college degree. Thank you Ned!

My fondest memory of Ned is seeing him on my way to work at 6am (or earlier) riding his bicycle on Gebhardt Rd in Brookfield - Inspiration! He, and the company he worked so hard for, have made a huge difference in my life and that of my family. He will be remembered.

I am so blessed to have known Ned. He was such a genuine, caring person and made a positive impact in the lives of so many people. He had a special way of remembering what was going on in the lives of the people he worked with and making a point to ask about it. Many winters were spent with the Bechtold family at cottage on Keyes Lake, WI in my youth. Ned Bechtold was one of the finest men I every met in my life. As a employee of Ned, I found him to be a concerned, repectful and caring employer. Ned was a employer of the highest caliber and I man who I held in high esteem. He left the world a better place.

In the Forties Ned, Charles Chapman and Wicky Frisch spend many a morning shooting hoops and watching Hopalong. He appears as the boy on the top of the Schoomaker Reef in my Tales. We lived apart but similar. God Bless.

Thank you Mr. B for all your guidance and advice growing up! I have so many great memories of you and your family at the WRC, camping, your home and cottage. One of my first memories was on the dock at your cottage feeding bread to the ducks and you giving me the nickname "eagle" for my lack of hair.

I'm sure everyone who met you came away a better person. I know I did.

It was indeed a privilege to have known such a man. My deepest sympathies to all of Ned's loved ones.

Ned was truly a down to Earth person who told me "there is nothing wrong with wanting to better yourself" after I gave my notice that I would be leaving the company. He always asked how things were going and is truly a person who cared about others. My prayers are with the Bechthold family at the loss of their father, husband, grandfather and friend. He isn't gone, he will always be in our hearts.

Ned you will be truly missed.The Asphalt Hot Mix industry needed Leadership and you were there when the big changes were made.You could see the future of the HMA changing and You promoted it.

Men like Ned are the exception not the norm. The moment I met Ned as his nieces date to his son Kurt's wedding he made me feel like I was part of the family (as did the rest of the Black sisters and their families). Ned was one of the rare people that contributed so much, and took so little. His humility, intelligence, sense of humor, and honest caring for his fellow man was his trademark. I will miss him very much.

Our prayers go out to the immediate family that will miss his daily presence, and to the rest of us, who didn't see Ned that often, but were comforted knowing that he was with us.
