Neil PETERSON Obituary

Published by Calgary Herald on Feb. 27, 2016.
PETERSON, Neil
1961 - 2016
It is with heavy hearts that we must share the news on the passing of our beloved Neil Peterson. Neil passed away unexpectedly on February 24, 2016, in Calgary, Alberta. Survived by his loving wife, Susie; his boys Kristjan (Jessie) and Andrew; his stepchildren Talia and Joshua; his parents Bryan and Marilyn; his brother Wayne (Nick) in Toronto; and a multitude of extended family. Neil touched many lives. He was so full of love and jest and was always there for family and friends offering unconditional help and guidance to anyone who may have needed it. By far, his kindness, generosity, and his undying love for Susie and his boys is what he will be remembered for most. Neil was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on March 13, 1961. He resided in East Kildonan and attended River East Collegiate. The family moved to Calgary in July of 1979 where Neil completed grade 12 at the Henry Wisewood Senior High School. Neil attended the University of Calgary. He was involved with DeMolay, and volunteered at Race City, Fort Calgary, and the Calgary Drop In Centre. Neil spent his professional life working at the Rocky View Hospital where he was widely respected. Many thanks to the staff at both the Rocky View and Foothills Hospitals. A Celebration of Neil's Life for family and friends will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2016 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a service at 2:00 p.m. at the Stampede Grounds, Ranahans Club. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Calgary Drop In Centre, http://www.thedi.ca or Fort Calgary, http://www.fortcalgary.com.
"Rest in peace my darling. I will forever love you and will always, always treasure the incredible ways you loved me. Until we meet again, you are forever in my heart." Love Susie
Condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.edenbrookcemetery.ca. Arrangements entrusted to EDEN BROOK FUNERAL HOME AND RECEPTION CENTRE, 24223 Twp Rd 242, Calgary, AB, T3Z 3K2.

Rockyview General Hospital fell into a strange somber trance as the news of the passing of Neil spread. Most staff knew him; some of us for many (20+) years. Always kind, generous, proud of his boys, loved, loved his wife. And I think he loved many of his co-workers as well. I miss his stories, and his snoring. Rest in Peace Neil. Susan Chambers

I met Neil working as a NA at RGH back in 2010.. he was a great guy and we stayed in touch over the years! We went on walks and breaks together at work and kept in touch over Facebook when I changed jobs. He was amazing to talk to, such a positive, supportive person. I'm so sad to hear of his passing, and my heart aches for the family he spoke so lovingly of. He was so in love with Susie and proud to be a father to his own and her children. I will always remember him.

No one can ever prepare for the loss of a loved one and to have it happen so sudden can seem like an insurmountable loss. Know that all the lives Neil touched will allow him to live on in the stories and memories of those that knew him, and those stories and memories will eventually be so comforting and familiar that you'll feel him with you when you miss him the most. To all who feel this loss, we offer our sincere condolences.

Our dearest Neil,
We Could write a book on all the kind, caring and thoughtful things you did for our family, all the funny stories our grandchildren loved you telling them and the respect you showed to us, Susie's Mum and Dad. You were one of us and our Hanney Family Fundays will never be the same without you, but you will live on in our wonderful, happy memories of all those times.

But most of all I want you to know how much it warmed our hearts to see the true love and happiness you and Susie shared. You adored her and it was obvious in everything you said and did. Thank you Neil, from the bottom of our broken hearts

Neil will be greatly missed. He always looked forward to the mountain back drop at the track. And we love sharing stories of Andrew and Janeese in our days of raising them. He was also on top of the Race track politics and finding ways to resolve the issues that plagued the track. He is loved and will be missed by many that he had touched, at the track and off. Come back to Andrew. Once you have settled in up there. He still needs you in his life. I will leave the candle lit for you and your journey.
