Nellis Cherry

NELLIS E. CHERRY, 91 SHANNON - Nellis E. Cherry, 91, of Shannon, passed away Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at Serenity Hospice and Home, Oregon. Nellis was born October 27, 1922, in Mt. Vernon, IL, the son of Ray and Etta (Hamblen) Cherry. On October 25, 1952, in Tennessee, he was united in marriage to Lou Eva Gulley (she preceded him on April 17, 2006). Nellis owned and operated Cherry Bros. Feed Mill in Shannon for over 30 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in WWII and earning 3 Bronze Star medals. Nellis was a member of the Tebala Shrine. He also loved to hunt and fish with family and friends. Survivors include daughter, Deb (Brad) Feller of Granville, IL; 2 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren; a nephew and niece; sister-in-law, Mary Ellen (Mike) Davis. He was preceded in death by a son in infancy, 2 brothers and 1 sister. Visitation will be Friday, December 6, 2013 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Polo Family Funeral Home, 110 E. Dixon St., Polo, with services to follow at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at Shannon Cemetery, Shannon, IL. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Serenity Hospice and Home.
