Nelly Dylla Obituary

Published by Monteal Gazette on Jun. 2, 2012.
DYLLA, Nelly (née Kirst)
August 23, 1926 - May 24, 2012
Dearly beloved wife of Jan Dylla, loving mother to Christian (Michèle), Paul (Karen), Barbara and Helen, cherished Grossmami to Jesse, Stéfanie, Kelvin and Megan. Predeceased by her parents Karl and Margarethe Kirst and brother Karl. Survived by sisters Lilly and Heidi. Born in St. Gallen, Switzerland, Nelly grew up in Arlesheim and worked as a maternity nurse in Basel. She met Jan on the ship crossing the Atlantic in 1952 and married him in Montreal in 1954. Housewife and baker par excellence, she raised her children with a loving discipline that moulded them into the adults they are today. She spent her final years at Place Kensington in Westmount where she enjoyed socializing with the other residents, soaking up the sun on the terrace, and walking around the neighbourhood among the trees and flowers she loved so much. Her gentleness, courtesy, kindness of heart and sense of humour endeared her to all. Many thanks to her caregivers Fereshta Yousefi and Ingrid Gallitzendörfer, to Dr Paul Lysy, to nurse Sandra Da Ponte and attendant Sara at Place Kensington, as well as to the staff at St Mary's Hospital on 5 South, 5 North and in the ER for their compassionate care. Special thanks to Drs. Wendy Estevez and Neil Ingram. In keeping with her generous spirit, Nelly has donated her brain to the Douglas Brain Bank to help further research into neurodegenerative diseases. Interment of ashes in the National Field of Honour (Pointe Claire) followed by a celebration of her life will take place on Thanksgiving weekend (info: [email protected]). Donations in Nelly's name may be made to the Douglas Brain Bank ( www.douglas.qc.ca Research Brain Bank) or a children's charity of your choice.
