Nevenka Samardzija

December 25, 1938 - December 9, 2011 It is with great sadness that we note the passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Nevenka (nee Devcic) Samardzija at Lions Gate Hospital in the early morning hours of Friday, December 9, 2011.

Born on Christmas Day in Zagreb, Croatia, Nevenka was the third and youngest child of Marija and Ivan Devcic. A woman of extraordinary strength, wisdom and kindness, Nevenka's life was marked by a fierce passion for her family; a tireless and boundless love which gave her both the strength and the will to endure the many challenges presented by her illness with determination, courage and dignity. A generous love which forever enriched the lives of all those that it touched.

Nevenka is survived by her husband of 52 years, Milan, her daughter, Marina (Randy), and by her grandchildren, Christopher and Adrienne, who were the light of her life and filled her heart with pride. She will be fondly remembered by family members and friends around the world.

May she rest in eternal peace and serenity.

Many thanks to the dedicated doctors and staff of the Lions Gate Hospital and, in particular, to Dr. Sandra Weibe and Dr. Urs Steinbrecher for their care and attention. By her request, there will not be a formal service; however, a private family celebration to honour Nevenka will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lion's Gate Hospital Foundation.
