Ode to Wife
My lovely wife's pure heart,
Caretaker of every family detail, seldom does she rest!
She is not jealous, does not hate, is not vain.
She is not angry, she does not care for frivolous entertainment.
Respectful towards mother, father, and husband, she creates a life filled with meaning and success.
She teaches the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to reach their full human potential.
She only prays for happiness and harmony, and loving-kindness.
Her only wish is for family peacefulness and joy.

Công Cha
Công Cha nhu núi Thái Son.
Nghia M? nhu nu?c trong ngu?n ch?y ra. M?t lòng th? M? kính Cha.
Cho tròn ch? hi?u m?i là d?o con.
... Vietnamese proverb

A father's sacrifice is immense as Mount Thái Son.
A mother's sacrifice is endless as the water overflowing from the spring's source.
We must revere and respect our parents with all our hearts.
It is most honorable to be pious.
... Translated by Mr. An Tien Nguyen

Analogous to the commandment, "Honor thy Mother and Father," this proverb is indoctrinated in Vietnamese culture and exemplifies the reverence that is due to one's parents. It is difficult to interpret this proverb in English because each word has multiple meanings in which there are no equivalent translations. For example, "Nghia" and "Công" encompass all aspects of sacrifice, love, work, and purpose. Language barriers exist when translating common terms, much less interpreting Buddhist concepts which have to overcome barriers of language, culture, history, time, and perspectives.
