Nicholas Cirillo Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 18 to Apr. 19, 2023.
Nicholas Cirillo, 91, of St. Johns, Florida, died peacefully on Sunday April 16, surrounded by his loving family.

Nicholas was born on June 22, 1931, in Brooklyn, NY to Peter and Antonetta Cirillo. He enlisted in the US Navy where he proudly served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Fighter Squadron 21, Oceana, Virginia, as an aircraft electrician where he served on numerous Naval aircraft carriers including the USS Bennington and USS Midway. During his service in the Mediterranean, he was privileged to meet his Italian family in the province of Bari. After his honorable discharge, Nicholas joined his father at the family business, Albee Fuel in Brooklyn. When the business was sold, he became a member of the New York City Department of Sanitation where he rose to the rank of Superintendent. He retired in 1990 and moved to Cape Coral and later Jacksonville, FL where he resided until his passing. Nick became very active in his church, San Juan Del Rio, where he met lifelong friends. He was an active member of the 50+ club and the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his former wife, Ersilia Cirillo, the mother of his children - Lisa (Rick) Burdick, Celeste (Jeff) Siebke, and Peter Cirillo and his partner, Jennifer Livesey. Nicholas was so very proud of his five grandchildren, Danielle Siebke, Lisa (Tucker) Holt, Michelle (Kam) Glowacki, Matthew Cirillo and Julia Cirillo. He was also blessed with three great grandchildren, identical twins Jameson Michael and Jackson Alexander Glowacki and Brooks Jeffrey Holt. In addition, Nicholas leaves his former wife Beverly Cirillo and his dear friend Mary Ann O'Meara, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and his church family. He was well loved and was happiest when surrounded by his family, eating a well cooked meal, talking politics, and watching Sunday football.

A Funeral Mass will take place at San Juan Del Rio Roman Catholic Church in Jacksonville, FL on Monday May 8 at 10:00AM. A reception will follow in the church social hall. Internment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to Tunnels to Towers, a charity that Nick was passionate about.

So Sorry to her of Nicks passing, he was a real gentleman, good Catholic and Knight in the Knights of Columbus. He always had a warm nice greeting whenever he saw you even if it was only a few days ago.
He was a fixture in the Knights when the council was first formed at San Juan Del Rio and will be missed.

Nick, what sad news to hear you are no longer going to be at 5:15 Mass and with us as one of our family 13. You have been such a friend and we will truly miss you. We know you are sharing a lemon drop martini and a vodka and tonic with family and friends. Love you,

I am so sad to hear of Nick´s passing. I would always see him at SJDR Adoration on First Fridays, sitting up front with MaryAnn, Lynn, and Elaine. The last time I saw him was this past Christmas Eve when he and the rest of his group were sitting near our table at Vito´s Italian Restaurant. Such a nice man. Rest in Peace, Nick. You´re in my thoughts and prayers.

Nick, you will truly be missed especially at our Saturday dinners after church. You will always hold a special place in my heart for what you did after Neil´s passing. I´m sure you are both enjoying that lemon drop martini. Love and cheers to you both.

Met Nick 20 years ago at San Juan del Rio´s Christ Renews His Parish seminar and we became life long friends.
We dined every Saturday after the 5:15 mass with a group of special friends from SJDR.
Nick was a special gentleman and will be greatly missed.
Elaine and I will always have happy memories of Nick.
