Nicholas McKennon Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 7, 2022.
Nicholas McKennon was born January 25, 1999, in Redmond, Washington to Rick and Wendy McKennon. On December 3, 2022, he unexpectedly passed away and the angels carried him to heaven.

He was a graduate of Bothell High School, class of 2017 and went on to earn his AA degree at Cascadia College.

Nick grew up playing ice hockey and skateboarding, and as a boy, loved his Legos. He always had a contagious way of making us laugh, whether it was 'be-so-mays', Blue's Clue's band-aids, or making his first driver's license at age 6! Life with 'The Nick McKennon" was never boring.

Nick's true passion was music - mainly producing beats. He could sing, rap, compose and play the keyboard. His artist name was Nick Happened, which was so fitting if you saw him onstage performing karaoke. He never missed a beat, and his talent and work were beginning to be discovered online by up-and-coming artists. Some of his favorite musicians included Frank Ocean, Mac Miller, Amir Obe, Drake, and The Weeknd.

He was drawn to warm climates, specifically San Diego, where he hoped to call home one day. He is remembered saying, "Life is too short not to see sunshine and palm trees every day!". Nick had a huge heart, generous spirit and loved his family. He had a soft spot for kitties - a.k.a. kits, although his biggest soft spot and love was for his mom.

He was preceded in death by grandparents William and Linda McKennon and grandfather Dennis Nakamoto. He is survived by his mother, father, brother Jake, sister Hailey (Connor), grandmother Sonia Nakamoto and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Always Loved. Forever Missed. Never Forgotten. R.I.P.

Wendy, Rick, Hailey and Jake,

I loved growing up with you in all your houses. I remember three of them: the slip n slide backyard, the forest backyard, and the one with the road hills and basement. I remember Nick spitting in the bathroom sink while standing on the counter to know how Yao Ming brushed his teeth. I remember Nick getting along so well with Drew and Drew thinking Nick was so cool. I remember the electric scooters and new cats and movies and family dinners. I´m thinking of you all and sending love to you.

Rick, Wendy and family - our prayers are with you right now. I don't have words to describe what my heart feels for you right now. It's been many years since we've seen you and Nick, but we have such wonderful memories of the boys playing hockey, road trips to Canada tournaments and just being silly boys. We are so very sorry.

Rick, Wendy, Hailey, Jake, I am tremendously sorry for your loss, and I want to first thank you for giving me a second home of sorts for many years. I´m still left here wondering if it´s true that you´re gone. Never in my life could that possibility have entered into my head but look where we stand today. I don´t feel comfortable yet speaking of you in the past tense, you´re alive as ever in both my heart and soul. We often refer to each other as "best friends `til the day we die," but this friendship is one that will extend beyond death. Heaven, somewhere else, so long as you´re there then I´m happy as clam at high tide. You are my brother and all the times we´ve spent riding bikes, listening to music, or chopping it up as if a single minute has passed since we last spoke are apart of the man I´m growing into today. I can´t help but mourn the children of yours that I´ll never meet, you could have been a great father but some things in life just aren´t meant to be and that simply has to be okay. Your unwavering confidence has always been something that I´ve admired and strove for since meeting you on that football field in the third grade. You are one of the best men that I know, I love you, Nick. I´ll be seeing you in due time brother, rest up.

My thoughts go out to the entire McKennon family for their loss. I´ve known Nick since we were 10 years old and he has shared so many secrets with me when it comes to making music that I will forever be grateful for. The last time he talked with me he recommended a song to me, I wish I got to talk to him again before he passed but I will cherish the years we had together. I miss you Nick

Nick was one of the kindest, most loving people I´ve ever met. I met him back in 2016 and to this day remember how friendly he was during our first encounter. I´m an artist like Nick was. We talked about making music together. I would send him my songs, he would send me his beats. I admired how passionate he was about the things that he loved. Since I moved to LA after high school and he stayed in WA, we never got the chance to make music together, but I find comfort in knowing that he´s still creating amazing music in heaven. I´ll appreciate the California sunshine and look up at the palm trees for you Nick. I miss you!

Wendy, Rick, Hailey, and Jake I am so sorry for your guys´ loss. I have always thought of you guys as my second family and that will never change. I will be here through all of the hurt for all of you guys. Nick and I often called each other brothers, and when we met new people we would introduce each other as brothers because it felt right, that will never change, he will always be my brother. Nick and I have shared so many memories together over the years, memories that I will cling to for the rest of my life. I have had the best times in my life right alongside Nick. He and I tried not to take pictures together all the time because we were always so caught up in enjoying the moment that we didn´t think about it but over the years we managed to capture a few of our endless good times together. This world will never be the same without you Nick, and I miss you with all of my heart. I love you and I will reunite with you in the next life. Until then brother

I am deeply saddened to hear about this. I had the pleasure of coaching Nick for 5 years and will never forget this smile. He was such an outgoing energetic kid. Nick was that kid of his teammates wanted to be around. Unforgettable memories for sure.

Heartbroken to hear the news about Nick. Such fond memories of time spent on and off the ice rink with Nick and family. He was truly a special player - hard-working, humble, dependable - and more importantly a wonderful friend and teammate to all the boys, and a joy to coach. Our deepest sympathies go out to Rick, Wendy, and family.

Nick was nothing but a joy to be around. His humor, kindness, and generosity always struck me as one of a kind.
I am grateful that I was able to work with and get to know Nick. We would constantly show each other pictures of cats, and when I brought my cat (picture attached), he loved her immediately and played with her every time I brought her in to visit.

Nick, I know you´re watching over us wherever you are. Sylvi loved you and misses you so much Rest in peace my friend

My sincerest condolences for this devastating loss. Nick touched my heart with his infectious smile, exuberant spirit, and unwavering love for his mom, family, and closest friends. I can´t help but smile at the memories showcasing the incredible and talented person he was. Posting a recent one here of him performing karaoke. My life is forever blessed for having known him, and he truly will be forever loved and missed. RIP my friend.

Deeply saddened to learn of Nick's passing and heartbroken for Wendy, Rick, Jake & Hailey. Nick had such a kind soul and vibrant spirit. He was a natural on the ice, a go-to player and natural leader from a coach's perspective. May his spirit burn brightly and cast a long shadow.
With deepest sympathies but fondest memories...

Many condolences to Rick, Wendy, Jake, And Hailey. A lot of my best/favorite memories growing up involved Nick and he never failed to be an amazing friend to me, and many others who love him dearly. So many great memories from skateboarding all over the town to performing our first concert together. Here´s a picture of Me, Nick, and Khalil after fishing out at Rattlesnake ridge. We were reeling em in like crazy and putting them in the cooler until we saw a sign that said "catch and release only". No wonder we were catching so many!! This and many other memories will be cherished. Miss and Love you forever bro Sending love to the McKennon family

Nick and I were always attached at the hip at work. One of us would move somewhere else in the store, and just like cats the other one would be there immediately. I always made the joke to him that we were the twins from the shining, since we would always just stance up in the same way and just *stare* at customers coming in.
The photo strip is probably my favorite out of all the photos and videos we took together, Nick had really came through for me that night and I´ll never forget it. It was my birthday and I was upset, most of my friends had cancelled on me at the last second and I had told Nick, since it´s upsetting! He had been at work, but he came through and showed up at the bar I was at to celebrate with me and I´ll always hold that in my heart. We couldn´t figure out how to change the border setting on the Photo Booth, so we used a Christmas one in the middle of July
