Nick Purcell Cline, 58, passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2011. A native of Durham County, he was the son of Albert Purcell Cline, Jr. of Canton and the late Beatrice (BeBe) Medford Cline who died in 2005. He graduated from Pisgah High School in 1971. Nick played varsity basketball and was also a member of the junior naval ROTC. He received his bachelor's degree from Appalachian State in parks and recreation in 1977. Nick loved the ocean. He enjoyed sailing, spending time at the outer banks as well as Shackelford Beach and Cape Lookout. Nick had an affinity for all animals, especially his dog, hiking the mountains of North Carolina and fly-fishing the Big East Fork. Nick enjoyed watching Appalachian State and Duke sports. He was in the United States Coast Guard serving at the C. G. Air Base in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife of 20 years, Christine Neal Cline; one daughter, Kacy Forbes and her husband, Jeremy, of Arapahoe, North Carolina; and numerous cousins. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 6, 2011 at Canton Central United Methodist Church with the Reverend David Christy and the Reverend Carrol Lindsey officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. Memorials may be made to Camp Sea Gull & Camp Seafarer, Camp Annual Fund, 218 Sea Gull Landing, Arapahoe, NC 28510.
