Nickolas Montoya Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 24, 2025.
Nickolas Isiah Mathew Montoya passed away on June 16, 2025, at the age of 44. Nickolas was able to donate his organs-saving six lives. His family is incredibly proud that even in death, he continued to give selflessly to others. Nickolas was born on June 3, 1981, in Ogden, Utah, to Edward Lee Montoya and Olga Castillo Luna.

Nick attended Saint Joseph Catholic School in Ogden as a child and later moved to Roy, where he continued his education in local public schools. As a teenager, Nick moved to Washington with his mother and attended Wishram High School. He graduated in 1999 and excelled in sports like football and track.

In 2000, he moved back to Utah to raise his son and start a family with his middle-school sweetheart Jennifer Gonzales. Nick and Jennifer married June 14th 2002 and raised their two sons together: Alexander and Xavier Montoya. He worked at Hill Air Force Base as an aircraft mechanic on C-130 and A-10 aircraft and loved his job. Known for his unmatched work ethic, Nick later became a maintenance mechanic throughout various parts of Utah.

He was actively involved in his sons' sports and often helped coach their baseball, football, and basketball teams. Those who knew Nick were aware of his attention to detail which included how his outfit always matched and that he always had to look on point.

Nick loved spicy food-Tapatio was always by his side, and he never ate a meal without it. He was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan who proudly supported his team and never missed a chance to defend them. He also enjoyed drawing and writing poetry. Growing up, he loved watching WWF wrestling-his favorite wrestler was Hulk Hogan.

Despite his tough exterior, Nick had a big heart. He was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back and was always willing to lend a hand. His loud, energetic presence commanded a room, and his love for his family was unwavering. He was a proud father who regularly told his sons how proud he was.

Nick and Jennifer divorced in 2020. He later married Jessica Leigh Matthews and lived in Sunset with her children Hunter and Kaileigh until his passing.

He will be deeply missed every day by all who loved him. While we mourn the many moments he'll miss, we know he will be with us in spirit, watching over us.

Nick is survived by his wife, Jessica Leigh Montoya; his sons, Alexander Montoya (with Kaitlin Paine) and Xavier Montoya (with Kortney Charnews); his stepson, Hunter Rasmussen, and stepdaughter, Kaileigh Rasmussen; his mother, Olga Castillo Luna (with Miguel Luna); and his siblings: Antoine Montoya (with Ursula Montoya) of Wishram, Washington, Sergio Montoya (with Jamie Montoya), Mario Balli, Adriana John, and Isaiah Montoya. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and extended family members who brought joy to his life.

Nick is preceded in death by his grandmothers, Esperanza Hernandez Castillo and Carmen Archuleta Montoya; his father, Edward Lee Montoya; and his grandfather, Modesto Montoya. We are comforted by the thought of his beautiful reunion with the loved ones he missed so dearly.

A celebration of life will be held on August 2nd at Steiny's Family Sports Bar and Grill (119 N 600 W, Ogden, Utah) from 2:00PM - 5:00PM Please join us for food, a toast, and the sharing of memories of our beloved father, husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend.
