Nina Kovachy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 28, 2025.
Nina (Reynolds) Kovachy, born on August 3, 1945, in Miami Beach, Florida, passed away on March 20, 2025, in Gainesville, Virginia. She was 79 years old.

A longtime resident of Coral Springs, Florida, Nina dedicated over four decades of her life to educating young minds as both a kindergarten and first grade teacher in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. Her long-standing commitment to early childhood education left a lasting impression on generations of students and colleagues alike- most notably, her 33 years at Maplewood Elementary.

Nina is lovingly remembered by her sons, Matthew (Andrea) and Andrew (Laura); her granddaughter, Megan; and her brother, Philip (Sandra). Her legacy lives on through the lives she touched both within her family and throughout the many classrooms she led with care and dedication.

A Celebration of Life will be held on April 5, 2025, at 4:00 PM at First Church Coral Springs, located at 8650 West Sample Road in Coral Springs, Florida.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org) in honor of Nina's memory.

When I started my teaching career at Opa-Locka Elementary, Nina welcomed me with open arms. Such a loving and caring teacher!
Nina was always there to answer my many questions that I had. Even though she transferred to Maplewood , we remained friends and loving those Miami Dolphins.
Nina was truly a very special lady.

Nina was an extraordinary educator-not just in the classroom, where she warmly welcomed a new group of students each year-but in the way she kept every one of them close as they grew and developed. I was always amazed by how organized, loving, and devoted she was. She made it a point to show up for every special occasion, supporting both current and former students.

I love her, respect her, and miss her deeply. She truly left a legacy and made a lasting impact on everyone who crossed her path. Her presence in our lives was a gift. Xoxo

I have no words for the impact Nina made on my boys except - EXCEPTIONAL & UNFORGETTABLE! I couldn't find a photo but found their First week of Kindergarten booklets and the card Nina gave to each of her students when they graduated 5th grade. We are all so blessed to have encountered this beautiful soul!

Nina was truly a very special woman. She was an incredible teacher and colleague/friend. Anyone who was fortunate to know her and was blessed. Nina was a joy to work with and a very special caring teacher to my son. May she rest in peace and she will always have a special place in my heart.

Nina Kovachy was such a rare gem in life. If you had her as a teacher, you were truly blessed to have the best. If you´re were a colleague, you were honored to be able to work with a model teacher. Matthew and Andrew won the lottery to be able to call her Mom. I had the privilege to be able to call her my dear friend. Miss you

Nina (aka Mrs Kovachy) was another mom to us. We spent hours in her home during high school and beyond. We could talk with her about Miami sports or whatever was going on in life. And there were often homemade tasty treats on hand. We were lucky to spend so many special moments with her and the family including both of her son's weddings, her retirement party, Thanksgivings and even Christmas dinner at the always welcoming Kovachy residence. I'm so happy my kids got to know her. They looked forward to delicious baked goods sometimes magically appearing at our doorstep. Nina was an amazing lady for a lot of reasons. She was an incredible educator and Mom. But the thing that stands out to me is how welcome I always felt in her home. She will be missed.

Nina was my friend before she was my sister-in-law. She was a great friend and such a great sister-in-law and aunt to our children. I know you are at peace now. Love you!

My best memories of my Aunt Nina are playing football in our backyard while being all dressed up, along with her love of owls and anything Dolphins related! I love you Aunt Nina!
