Nina B. Walkowiak

Nina Barbara Walkowiak, age 83, died peacefully at Wm. Beaumont Hospital in Grosse Pointe after a short illness. Nina was born on August 7, 1929 in Detroit, the daughter of Zymund and Sally Sipowicz. She grew up in Hamtramck and was a 1947 graduate of Hamtramck High School. Nina worked a short time at Michigan Bell Telephone Co. as an operator, before she married Arthur Walkowiak, D.D.S. Nina was the mother of nine children so she was a very busy mom and homemaker. She was an excellent cook and an avid tennis player. Nina was a charter member of the Wimbledon Racquet Club in St. Clair Shores. Nina is survived by her nine children, Nanette Strobl (Gary), Arthur, Heidi, Mark, James (Jayne), Richard (Rose), Sally Blankenship (Brian), Amy Mastromatteo (Don) and Michael; her 13 grandchildren, Gary Strobl, Jr., Harrison Walkowiak, Allasandra Walkowiak, Stefania Walkowiak, Laura Blankenship, Sarah Blankenship, Jamie Mastromatteo, Dominic Mastromatteo, Matthew Mastromatteo, Carly Walkowiak, Summer Walkowiak, Jackson Walkowiak and Michael Walkowiak, Jr.; and her brother, Ted Sipowicz (Louise). She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur. Services are private.
