Ninan K. Mathew, also known as "Mathew" and "Sunny", died peacefully surrounded by his family on September 7, 2024, in New Albany, Ohio. Born on August 2, 1936, in Kottayam, Kerala, India, he immigrated to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1968 and retired in Venice, Florida in 2005.

He leaves behind his devoted wife of 59 years, Elizabeth Mathew of Venice, FL, his sons and their spouses, Ajoy Mathew and Sunitha Menon Mathew of North Potomac, MD and Bijoy Mathew and Sonali Patel-Mathew of Sudbury, MA, and his daughter Supriya Mathew of Gahanna, OH as well as his beloved grandchildren, Siddharth, Aliya, Salin, and Gaiyatri. He is preceded in death by his parents P.K. Ninan and Thankamma Ninan and sister Remany Isaac. He will be missed by his surviving brother-in-law, Easaw Isaac, siblings, Babu Ninan and wife Santhi, Revi Ninan and wife Leela, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He received a B.Sc. in Physics from Union Christian College in Aluva, Kerala, a B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering in 1962 at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, West Bengal. He later received an MBA from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Mathew began his career in 1962 as a chemical engineer at the Parke Davis company in Mumbai, India. Upon immigrating to the United States, he worked for almost 30 years for H. B. Fuller, a leading global adhesives provider, where he was tasked with improving the manufacturing process for adhesives and paint products. He immensely enjoyed working with his colleagues and friends at the Blue Ash, Ohio facility of H. B. Fuller.

Mathew always enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and maintained a very large social network. He was intellectually and artistically curious his entire life. He loved to draw, paint and take photos. He appreciated the classical music of India, both Hindustani and Carnatic, as well as all Western genres of film and music. He avidly followed politics and global news. During retirement, Mathew enjoyed the peaceful sunny climes of Venice, Florida, participating in many local activities with his wife and their friends, connecting with nature, watching beautiful sunsets at the Venice Jetty and appreciating the local flowers and birds. You could often find him at the Venice Wine and Coffee Company talking with the other regulars. He also enjoyed traveling to spend time with family and friends.

He was a kind and friendly person throughout his life and a caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, and will be truly missed by all.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11am on Friday, January 3, 2025, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Venice, Florida. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Cure Alzheimer's Fund (https://curealz.org/) and/or the Children's Inn at NIH (https://childrensinn.org/ways-to-give/).

Remembering Sunny with affection! When I first moved to Cincinnati in 1977, Sunny and Elizabeth befriended me. I will always remember their warmth and hospitality. RIP Sunny!

Dear Elizabeth and family,

We are deeply saddened to hear about the loss of Sunny (as we fondly addressed him )My heart goes out to all of you during this difficult time.

We will always remember him as a kind and joyful person who lit up the room with his smile. One of my fondest memories of him was when we visited his home in Venice, Florida. Seeing his face light up when we gifted him the souvenirs from Israel is etched in my memory forever. It was a small gesture, but it brought him so much happiness, and that's a testament to the kind of person he was.
He also took us to his favourite
Piazza and coffee shop.we enjoyed our visit very much.

Please know that I'm thinking of you all and sending my love from India. May the memories of his love, kindness, and warmth continue to comfort you in the days ahead.

With love and condolences, neeta and Rohit.

Remembering sunny in a special way. He was not a musician but enjoyed and appreciated music of all genres: man of few words but conveyed a lot all the time: not an extrovert but enjoyed going out: not a gregarious person but loved having people around all the time.

Sunny will always be remembered for his warmth and generosity. I still cherish the memories of my stay at Cincinnati back in 1997 and our long and enjoyable drive to the Niagra Falls.
