She is survived by sisters Anne Reeves, Helen Callaghan, Deborah Bailey and brother Peter Hurst.

Nondas grew up in Forest Hills, NY and Cleveland, OH. She graduated from Marymount College-Tarrytown and earned an M.A. from Fordham University. She was an editorial assistant at Harcourt Brace in Manhattan and later a high school English teacher on Long Island. After moving to Providence in 1961, she stayed home raising four children for 15 years. She became the first Director of Development and Public Relations for The Gordon School and later Director of Public Relations and Publications at Roger Williams University, then Deputy Press Secretary for Rhode Island Governor. She was Director of Communications at Lesley University in Cambridge, MA before achieving the highlight of her career as Executive Director of The Fund for Community Progress, a network of 26 nonprofit organizations advocating for peace and social justice.

A former Chair of the Board of Directors for the Nonviolence Institute, Nondas remained a longtime board member. She coordinated courses with the Lifelong Learning Collaborative and was a Steering Committee member of the R.I. Interfaith Coalition to Reduce Poverty. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at Hope Hospice as well as every member of the Wingate Residences on the East Side who treated Nondas like family in her final years.

Nondas was a beautiful soul and a dear friend, first to my mother, and later to me. I always looked forward to our annual lunch dates around the Santa Lucia holiday. Every interaction with her left me feeling energized, inspired and hopeful. The way she signed her letters reflected who she was and the blessings she imparted to us all -- Peace and Love, Nondas

I was privileged to work closely with Nondas at the Nonviolence Institute. I learned so much from her. She was such a graceful, quiet, powerful woman. I admired her very much. This little state is much better for her having done all that she has done. Much love to you Nondas!!

Nondas was extraordinary. She was a lion with white gloves. Persistent and tenacious in furthering peace, justice and non-violence, she appeared polite, and soft spoken. I loved her spirit, energy and commitment. As a friend of forty years, she was thoughtful and caring with her attention and support.

Deep appreciation to Nondas for her years of work for peace and good leadership and for those in poverty in Rhode Island. She supported Ukraine with all her heart and ability. She has many friends in Ukraine who will also mourn her passing. Nondas exemplified grace and goodness. We miss you, dear Nondas. With love, Nancy
