NOREEN OGDEN Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 3, 2013.
-Noreen Rochelle Adsen Ogden, age 77, passed away early Wednesday, July 3, 2013, after a long ordeal with Alzheimer's disease. Noreen was born on November 30, 1935 in Milwaukee Wisconsin, to Norris Tividore Adsen and Hazel Henrietta Nagorsne.
Raised in Milwaukee, she spent her college years at the University of Utah, gaining her Bachelor and Masters degrees in Philosophy. She graduated with honors achieving Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, and was a two-time Fullbright Scholar nominee. She became an early Utah environmental activist while a member of Wasatch Mountain Club and was a co-founder of the Utah Environmental Center.
Noreen married Dail Ogden on December 30, 1966 in Salt Lake and later moved to Littleton, Colorado, where she served as the Littleton City Planning Commissioner. She subsequently joined the League of Women Voters of Colorado as a legislative analyst and lobbyist, eventually to rise to the position of President of the 1500 member volunteer organization.
Noreen and Dail later retired to Arizona, where they enjoyed the beautiful surroundings of Sedona and the outdoor activities it offered. There, she also dedicated her time to the hobby of studying and collecting memorabilia of the native peoples of the southwest.
When Dail became ill with Parkinson's disease they returned to Salt Lake where she devoted long hours to his care. Upon the death of Dail, Noreen realized she had early symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. Slowly, but progressively, she receded and subsequently succumbed to this debilitating disease. To her family, her passing was filled both with joy for her release and the sadness of her loss. They will miss her sweet smile and loving disposition.
Proceeded in death by her parents, her only sibling, Gerald "Jerry" Adsen, and her beloved Dail Ogden, Noreen leaves behind her step children, Carol (Mike) Tuckett, Scott (Karen) Ogden, Mont (Colleen) Ogden, many step grand children, sister in law, Joanne Adsen, niece Annemarie Adsen, nephew Eric Adsen and many, many friends. She will not be forgotten. Special thanks go to her neighbor's at the Highland Cove Condominiums as well as friends and caretakers at Highland Cove Assisted Care. Special thanks go to the staff and patients at Hillside Rehab Center, where Noreen spent the last six years of her life. Affinity Hospice was also kind and caring for her and her family at the final days of her life.
Private graveside services beside Dail, will be held at a later date. A book of memories will be compiled and shared with her relatives and dear friends. Written contributions will be appreciated by sending them to: www.wasatchlawn.com In lieu of flowers, kindly send tax-deductible contributions to: Alzheimer's Association www.alz.org/donate.

Noreen and I met on our first day at Milwaukee's Bay View High School, in Miss Prucha's ninth grade home room. Our long friendship started on that day and will continue forever in my memory. Even when distance and changes in our lives made our times together infrequent, when we were together we were always able to reconnect and pick up where we had left off. Noreen and I were distantly related and liked to consider ourselves "cousins". She was a true friend, warm and kind and supportive and fun to be with. For many years she underestimated her own talents and intelligence and it was wonderful that this began to change when she met Dail. I am grateful that his family provided her with so much love and support in her declining years.

Noreen was a wonderful person. I first knew her during Dail's decline; she used her considerable intellect to advocate for him when he was a patient at St. Mark's.

Then Noreen herself became my patient, as she first experienced the effects of Alzheimer's. It was tragic when she had to give up the job she so enjoyed at Cactus and Tropical. Noreen was fully aware then of what was happening to her, even though our usual screening tests failed to reflect the magnitude of her growing disability.

It was my great privilege to have known Dail and Noreen, and I shall not forget them.

Although I have never met or known your family, I lost my precious, bright mother to the cruel disease of Alzheimer's years before she passed. I understand your loss began before now and I pray for your continued peace and celebration of your loved one's life. Blessings to this family
