Noreen J. Swallow
(1928 - 2017)

After a long illness due to complications of Parkinson's disease, Noreen died of pneumonia at the Queensway Hospital in Toronto on November 20, 2017. Noreen was the beloved mother of Carol, Mark & Leila, grandmother of Lexie (14) and Victoria (11), and wife of the late J. Earl Swallow.Noreen was born and went to school in Mimico, Ontario. She was awarded a full scholarship to the University of Toronto, where she earned her B.A. in modern languages and literature, and later her Phil.M. with a thesis on the work of Mme Germaine de Staël. She met Earl Swallow when they were both teaching English to NATO officers at the air force base in London, Ontario. Noreen was a professor of French literature at Victoria College at the University of Toronto, and subsequently the University of Toronto Mississauga at Erindale, where she was respected and appreciated for her skills as a teacher and administrator. She was a long-time resident of Lorne Park, Mississauga and loved to stay at the family cottage on Lake Simcoe. Noreen enjoyed long distance swimming, theatre and ballet, classic and contemporary literature, Hockey Night in Canada, reading the newspapers, and chatting with friends over coffee.Noreen's family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the caring nurses, nurse practitioners, chaplain, physicians and staff of the Complex Continuing Care unit of both the Queensway and Mississauga sites, THP. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Peel Chapel 2180 Hurontario Street, Mississauga (Hwy 10 N. of Qew) from 6-9 p.m. Friday, and from 2:00 p.m. Sunday November 26, 2017 until the time of the Funeral Service in the Chapel at 3:00 p.m. Interment Springcreek Cemetery on Thursday November 30, 2017at 2:00 p.m.If you would like to make a donation in Noreen's memory, please do so to the charity of your choice.
