Norma Lavonne (Johnson) Maigaard

Stockton - Norma Maigaard passed away at Oakmont of Brookside in Stockton on June 8, 2024. She was born on April 1, 1927, in Fonda, Iowa, and raised in Pocahontas, Iowa. She and her four sisters and one brother were part of a hard-working farming family and lived during the Great Depression. This was when modern-day conveniences such as we know today did not exist. Norma and her siblings had an outhouse for their toilet, lived by candlelight, had to milk the cows manually every day before school, worked hard in the fields, and attended a one-room school until they entered high school. Norma attended Augustana Lutheran College in Rock Island, Illinois where she met her husband Rev. Leonard Maigaard. Norma graduated in music. She and her husband lived in Minnesota, Vancouver, B.C. Canada, and California where Norma taught school along the way and directed church choirs at her husband's parishes. Norma had a beautiful voice and sang in college and in the choirs she directed. She taught music at various schools and played the piano and organ.

After retirement, she taught ESL at Charter House and Lao Family in Stockton. She was very talented musically and especially loved classical music. Her favorite composer was Bach. Norma attended the Stockton Symphony concerts regularly and was a faithful member. She was a vibrant, strong, family-loving woman who will be dearly missed. Norma leaves behind three children; Paul Maigaard (Brenda), David Maigaard, and Suzanne Thompson (Walt). Five grandchildren; Matthew Maigaard (Erin), Martin Maigaard (Danielle), Lindsay Heidelberger (Ryder), Aimee Thompson (Tom), Cole Maigaard, and nine great-grandchildren; Cooper, Kaeden, Anya, Ulee, Ethan, Ellis, Ainsley, Bodhi, and Ruby. Norma also leaves behind a brother Charles Johnson (Karen) and a sister Mavis Graven (Stan), Ron Mastin, and Ron Maigaard (Melvie) brothers-in-law, in addition to many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her dear loving husband, Leonard Maigaard, her son Timothy Maigaard, parents Alvin T and Helen (Carlson) Johnson, and sisters Faye Johnson (Warren), Delores James (Hodd), and Lorraine Mastin.
