Norman Woodrow Balthis BRISTOL, Va. Norman Woodrow Balthis, 93, passed away, on Monday, May 31, 2010, Wellmont Hospice House, Bristol Tennessee. He was born in Washington County, Va., on Sept. 2, 1916, to the late Charles Lee Balthis and Ella Denton Balthis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Anderson Balthis; infant daughter; and brothers, Archie, Sherman and Jassee Balthis. He retired from Burlington Industries after 33 years of service and was a member of Walker Mountain Baptist Church. Survivors include his sister, Hazel Balthis Rickson; his brother, Clyde Balthis and his wife Mabel; special nieces and nephews, Betty Fields and her husband George, Anna Dishner and her husband Gene, Barbara Fauver and her husband Bill, Bill Balthis and his wife Phyllis, Charles Balthis and his wife Shirley and David Balthis and his wife Tonya; several other nieces and nephews, great nieces and great-nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. He will be missed by his family and many friends, including his pals at Shoney's. The family is especially grateful to the nurses and staff of Wellmont Hospice House for their loving care. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:45 Wednesday evening at Oakley-Cook Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 8 with Rev. Donald Denton, Rev. Kenny Hammond and Rev. Billy Denton officiating. The committal service and interment will be held at 11 Thursday morning in Denton Cemetery. Pallbearers will be great- nephews, Tim Balthis, Mark Fauver, Chris Fauver, Brett Balthis, Cody Balthis, Mike Capell and Simon Allerton. Arrangements especially for Mr. Balthis have been made through Oakley-Cook Funeral Home.
