Norman CLARK Obituary

Published by Calgary Herald from May 11 to May 16, 2015.
CLARK, Norman Ancrum
August 9, 1931 – Edmonton, AB
May 8, 2015 – Calgary, AB
With great sadness, Norm's family announces his passing on May 8, 2015. Norm was born in Edmonton, Alberta, eldest son of Roland and Jean Clark, and older brother to Evelyn and Judy. Norm had a happy childhood in Edmonton, enjoying camping, fishing and canoing on the North Saskatchewan River with friends and family. Norm loved sports of all kinds, particularly football, golf and skiing. He enjoyed sharing stories of his childhood, and those who knew him well knew his stories well too. Norm obtained his BSc. in Engineering at the University of Alberta. There, Norm met the love of his life, Joan. They were married on May 5, 1956, and moved around Alberta as Norm started his career in the oil patch, living and working in Drayton Valley, Red Deer, Edmonton, and finally Calgary in 1968. Norm and Joan settled in the Red Deer Lake area, south of Calgary, with their four children. Norm loved his new life as part-time rancher and full- time engineer. He was a passionate entrepreneur, running his own oil and gas company and loving the hunt for the next play. Favorite activities included raising Limousin cattle, trying to tame wild horses, raising 4-H steers, playing polo, and being actively involved in community sports, especially hockey and baseball. Norm was coach, mentor, manager and fan for all his kids and their friends, with the Clark home being a hub of activity, hosting many parties around the hot tub. Norm and Joan moved to Millarville in 1986, where Norm embraced the ranching community, including pack trips, brandings, cattle drives and Millarville races. Norm loved his friends, old and new, and made a point of keeping in touch. In his later years, Norm's greatest joy was his grandchildren. He had a special relationship with each of his eleven grandchildren, loving their unique personalities and being the most loyal fan for each and every one. Family dinners were not complete without Norm sharing his hilarious stories. His legacy will live on through his love of story and shared laughter. Friends, neighbours and family came to expect his appearance with no notice, anytime, anywhere…. his grandchildren granted him wild-card status at all times! Norm was predeceased by his beloved Joan on April 11, 2015. He is survived by his sisters Judy Rodger and Evelyn O'Sullivan; his children Cindy Roberts (Jim), Carole Goodreau (Leroy), Deb (Fairbanks) Stewart (Iain) and Bob Clark. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Riley, Shea, Brett, Grady, Keegan, Carley, Sarah, Josh, Hayley, Jamie, and Sam; and his extended family. Norm was also predeceased by his parents, his son-in-law Stew Fairbanks, and his daughter-in-law Mary-Ann Clark. A Celebration of Norm and Joan's lives will take place at Sirocco Golf & Country Club on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. Norm's family would like to thank Dr. Timothy Dowdall and the staff at Oilfields General Hospital and finally, Dr. Roode and Unit 81 staff of the Rockyview Hospital for the tender and loving care they showed Norm in the last month of his life. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In living memory of Norman Clark, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.

Dear Clark family
It is with great sadness that we heard of Norm's passing. Can't count the number of times we sat on Peter and Pat Fisher's front porch having a cocktail, traidin "lies" and listening to Norm tell stories and trying not to pee our pants from laughing so hard. he was my branding partner for many years at Fisher's also . he and I ran irons there for may years. We'll miss him there.Your mom and dad were wonderful friends and great neighbours. We missed them when they moved to Okotoks and we will miss them more now.
Your dad was a "Good Guy" as he used to say and he has enriched our lives. We are thankful to have known him.
