Norman Godbout

Norman Godbout 1941 - 2013 HOLYOKE - Norman Godbout, age 72, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, September 21, 2013. He was born in Saint-Raphal-de-Bellchasse, Quebec, Canada, son of the late Angenard and Yvonne (Lemelin) Godbout. Norman was a hardworking, strong, proud and humble man. He was a gifted craftsman who was always willing to provide help where needed. He moved from Canada to Springfield, MA in 1959 and worked for the Lussier Construction Company for 25 years. In 1984 he opened his own construction business, Norman Godbout & Sons, with his son Gary. Norman enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and taking snowmobile trips to Canada. His true passions were driving his horses with buggies and snow sleighs, and spending countless hours at his maple sugar house and camp, bringing enjoyment to families and friends. Norman cherished his time spent with his beloved sons and grandsons working on their many projects together. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Pauline (Thibault) Godbout; two sons, Mario and his wife Karen (Sabourin) Godbout and Gary Godbout and his companion Dianne Theroux of Southampton; his grandchildren, Andre, Robert and Justin Godbout of Holyoke; a brother, Rejean and his wife Denise of Canada; sisters, Hugette and her husband Jean Luis Morency of Holyoke, Lillian and her husband Viateur Larochelle of Westfield, and Adela and her husband Marcel Cote of Canada; brothers-in-law, Robert Thibault and his wife Olga of FL, Pierre Thibault and his wife Carol of Montreal, Denis Thibault and Yvon Thibault of Montreal; sisters-in-law; Lisette and her husband Marcel Raby, Diane and her husband Bruno Garant, Francine Thibault and Claude Couture, all of Quebec, as well as many nieces and nephews. Norman was predeceased by two brothers-in-law, Roland and Raymond Thibault. The funeral will be held on Thursday at 8:30 a.m. from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 1945 Northampton Street. Burial will follow in Forestdale West Cemetery, all in Holyoke. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in memory of Norman to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Sarcoma and Bone Cancer Treatment Center, 450 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA 02215.
