Norman Goldstein Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 9, 2022.
Norman Alan Goldstein, 82, of Mesa, Arizona, passed away on February 23, 2022. Norm was born on May 8, 1939 to Abraham "Eddie" Goldstein and Ruth Channen. Norm grew up in Brookline, Massachusetts with his three siblings, Dorothy "Dottie" (his twin), Miriam "Miki," and Irwin.
Norm graduated from Brookline High School, Boston University, and Northeastern University. After college, in the mid 60's, Norm served in the Army, stationed around Europe holding rank of First Lieutenant. Following his military service, Norm worked as an engineer on several nuclear power plants (a new technology at the time), including spending four years in Alaska engineering the seismic technology on the pipeline. Upon his retirement, Norm kept his mind and his abs in shape as a custodial engineer and a substitute teacher.
Norm loved his family, including his wife of almost 33 years, Margaret "Gigi" Umlah; his sons, Eric, Dan, and Ari (from his first marriage to Marilyn "Margo" Coris); his Umlah stepdaughters, who he loved as his own, Robin, Heather, and Katie; and his grandchildren, Braxton, Lucas, Ferrin, Benjamin, Kyle, Megan, Courtney, Matthew, Jeremy, and Joshua.
Norm was a hard-working, loving, and gentle man. Norm had passion for so many things-dogs, sports, yardwork, photography, and music, among others. But Norm is perhaps best known for his love of desserts and puns. Even through illness, Norm kept his sense of humor and could regularly be heard bursting into song and inventing his own words and melodies.
Norm will be missed dearly by his family and, undoubtedly, by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Norm's name to Hospice of the Valley.

We extend our deepest sympathy to The family of Norman. Always a smile on his face, I will never forget our first meeting, from his yard to ours he yelled. "when the mountain is pink it´s time to drink" always a jovial fella. Our thoughts and prayers. Fly free among the Angels Norman until we meet again. Cheers to you.

I haven't been able to put together words that describe what Norman meant to me. I'm not sure I ever will. He showed me strength in silence, how to love, and how to laugh. He was brave, kind, humble and honorable. Norm never boasted and always praised those around him. I will miss his hugs and his smile most of all. I promise to teach little Samantha about her amazing grandfather and instill in her the values that Norman taught me. Love you forever Norm!
