Norman Jones Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 6 to Dec. 7, 2022.
Norman David Jones, 74, of Gilbert, AZ passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 27, 2022 and was reunited with his parents Emerson and Virgie (Payne) Jones. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Alexa V. (Power) Jones and their 7 children: Amanda (W. David) Ramer, Nathan (Karmen) Jones, Susanna (Ryan) Christensen, Rebecca (Jared) Standage, David (Amanda) Jones, Ryan Jones, and Sarah (Jon) Boone. As grandfather of 22 grandchildren, he was anticipating his latest promotion to GREAT Grandpa in January 2023. Norman, the middle child and only brother, is also survived by his sisters Arlene (Brent) Peterson, Barbara Jones, Lola (Jack) Mecham, and Peggy Wiley.

Norman was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission in Alberta, Canada before marrying his eternal companion in 1972. He dedicated over 35 years of service to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, primarily as a highway patrolman. A resident of Chandler for most of his life, Norman and Alexa raised their family in his childhood home where he maintained connections from the past, with careful attention to the widows and longtime families of the area.

With a passion for words, Norman will be remembered for his sharp wit, mischievous sense of humor, and colorful storytelling. He was an avid collector of treasures: books, friends, obscure information, and most especially bargains. He was known in all areas of his life for his resourcefulness and was always willing to share with others. For his generosity and so many other reasons, he will be missed.

Arrangements for Norman are as follows: Thursday, December 8, 2022, Visitation will be held from 6-8PM at Bueler Chandler Mortuary, 14 West Hulet Drive, Chandler, AZ 85225.

Friday, December 9, 2022, a second visitation will be held at 10:30 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints San Tan Stake Center, 4170 South Ranch House Parkway, Gilbert, AZ 85297. Funeral services will begin at 11:30 AM. Interment will follow at the City of Mesa Cemetery.

Norm was like a Father and Mentor to me. A dear, wonderful, kind neighbor when I lived in Arizona. Our conversations will truly be missed and treasured forever. God bless you Alexa, and the entire Jones Family. Former Neighbor, Dawn

I am so sorry to hear of Norm's passing only today. Heaven welcomed a great man. I shared a passion for local history with him at the San Tan Historical Society. Working on projects with him was always meaningful and entertaining! He had a great knack for sharing humor and laughter with those he was around with. His devotion to his wife, love for his kids and care for his community was always inspiring to me. My deepest condolences to his family and friends for their loss.

I have many good memories of working with Norm while on patrol in the east valley freeways. We enjoyed many discussions about politics, both on the Department and State level. God bless you brother.
