Norman Maxwell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 25 to Jun. 26, 2016.

Norman E. Maxwell led a long and exemplary life. Born on June 16, 1920 to Ruth and Joseph Maxwell, Norman passed away on June 23, 2016. Norman was attending college at the University of Illinois, when he was called to duty in the Navy. He described his time in the Navy as the major defining event of his life. Norman trained naval aviators, and participated in the Pacific theater during World War II. His time in the Navy led him to change his career path from mechanical engineering to aeronautical engineering. It also led to meeting his wife, Madelyn Maxwell. They were married December 07, 1944 and had many friends and adventures during their 58 years of marriage. Norman upon graduation after WWII accepted a position as an aeronautical engineer, working for thirty-five years at General Dynamics. He and Madelyn loved to travel, golf, and play bridge, as well as continue to learn.

Norman and Madelyn are survived by their two daughters, Judith Phillips and Jacquelyn Maxwell, their granddaughter Jill Phillips and great grandson Nicholas Harms. Norman was the oldest of four siblings: Joanne Marsh; Francis Maxwell (Joan); Charolette Small (deceased). He also leaves numerous and much loved nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

A Celebration of Norman's life will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at 2 p.m.. For information please contact Jackie at [email protected].

My Uncle Norman was one of the major influences in my life as an example of intellect, stability and humor. The world was a better place because of him and although his body has passed, his spirit continues in all those he touched.
