Norman POTTRUFF Obituary

Published by Regina Leader-Post on Jun. 13, 2014.
Norman Rupert Pottruff
August 15, 1946 – May 25, 2014
With profound sadness, the family of Norman Rupert Pottruff (Norm) advise of his passing on May 25, 2014 after a courageous battle with chronic lung disease. Norm's optimistic spirit, stories, advice, and laugh will be missed by his wife Oanh and their children and grandchildren – Cole Pottruff, Kim Pottruff (granddaughter Zoey), Jennifer Pottruff, and Victoria Pottruff and his children and grandchildren by his first marriage to Betty Petrescue – Diana Pottruff (grandsons Alex and Dakota); Jerry Pottruff (granddaughters Desiree and Veronica); Tammy Pottruff (grandchildren Stephanie, Kari, Jessie, and Katelyn); and David Pottruff (grandson Joey). He will also be missed by his sisters Willa Rae Stephenson (nee Pottruff) and Betty Ann Pottruff and their families; as well as by Oanh's extended family in Regina and Kingston; and by his many friends. Norman was predeceased by his parents Rupert Russell Pottruff and Annetta Pottruff (nee Norman) of Moose Jaw. Born on August 15, 1946, in Moose Jaw, Norm grew up on the farm at Eskbank, near Eyebrow, and attended school in Moose Jaw. Allergies to grain dust and asthma made farming impossible. After moving to Regina in 1970, he pursued many careers - running a gas station, a motor cycle dealership, establishing Fairdeal Tax Service, working for Welfare Rights and returning to fixing and selling vehicles and making motorcycle sidecars. After leaving Welfare Rights, he served on the Board for 35 years. He enjoyed travelling the open road on his motorcycle. He took SIAST and university classes, but was at heart an entrepreneur and inventor. Norm was a family man with a large extended family, including relatives who arrived as Vietnamese refugees. He had a vast network of friends. For Norm every day was an adventure to be lived and every person and experience became a story to recount with humour. A Memorial Service will take place at Lakeview United Church, 3200 McCallum Ave., Regina, SK on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Norman's memory may be made to World Vision. Please feel free to share stories told by or about Norm along with messages of condolence at www.remembering.ca. Arrangements entrusted to:

There are no words to express how deeply sorry we are for the loss of such an incredible man. There is not a day that goes by that we don't take a moment to pause and think about you and your family. You are in our thoughts, prayers, and especially our hearts.

Oh behalf of The 90 and 9 Chapter of the Christian Motorcylists Association ((CMA), I convey deep sympathy to Norm's family on their huge loss of a dear, kind and gentle man. We got to know Norm many years ago when CMA was trying it find a way for Mel, a former biker crippled with severe MS, to participate in the Regina Toy Run. Norm was SO helpful. He hooked us up with his friends who had sidecars large enough to accommodate Mel, and he came along in the motorcycle escort with us. We enjoyed seeing him at bike events over the years. He was always a friendly and pleasant fellow and he will be missed. We so wish we could pay our respects tomorrow at his memorial service but our chapter has a commitment to keep in Elbow that takes us away for the weekend. May God comfort Norm's grieving family and draw them close.
