Norman Robinson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Nov. 28 to Nov. 30, 2022.
Norman Robinson Sandwich - Norman Robinson, age 81, of Sandwich, passed away surrounded by family on November 25, 2022. He was the beloved husband of 59 years to Judy Robinson (Cammarata), loving father of Jill Manning of Sandwich, and Scott Robinson and his wife Geralyn of Plymouth, and devoted grandfather of Allison Manning of Sandwich, Anna Robinson Russo of Easton, and Emily Robinson of Boston.

Norm grew up in Taunton, MA, was a stand out athlete in basketball and baseball, and most notably, pitched a no-hitter as a Sophomore for Taunton High School. His achievements as a pitcher garnered attention from the Red Sox, who offered him a position in the minor leagues. He instead decided to marry his high school sweetheart and start a family in Taunton. Soon after, he served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army National Guard.

Norm worked in banking for 49 years, and received educational training from Babson College, University of Fairfield, American Institute of Banking, University of New Hampshire, and Williams College. He held positions at Baybank United National, Randolph Savings Bank, Bank of Boston, Cape Cod Bank & Trust, and retired from TD Bank as Assistant Vice President, Portfolio Officer in 2009.

Giving back to the community was essential to Norm. In the greater Taunton area, he served on the Board of Directors of Morton Hospital and the Taunton Red Cross, and was former President of the Kiwanis Club. He was also former Head of the Commercial Division for the Taunton United Way, former Trustee for the Arthritis Foundation of Boston, and served as Treasurer for the March of Dimes in Taunton and Norton. On Cape Cod, his community service continued as a Board Member and President of the Kiwanis Club of Sandwich, and as a Committee Member and fund raiser for the Rehabilitation Hospital for the Cape & Islands in Sandwich.

Norman was also a well known wood carving artist and had been carving professionally for over 35 years. He began carving as a hobby in 1982, and in 1989 was named an Undiscovered Carver by the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History. The recognition encouraged him to enter more competitions. In 1991, two of his carvings won ribbons at the 21st Ward World Championship Wildfowl Carving Competition in Ocean City, MD. Professional status was soon to follow in 1993, when his work was accepted into the Valley Shore Waterfowlers Competition in Cromwell, CT. Since then his work has received numerous awards in competitions throughout New England. Norm has also been featured on the cover of Cape Cod Times Magazine. His work can be found in many private collections, as well as the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster, MA, the Old Colony Historical Society Museum in Taunton, MA, and Spaulding Hospital in Sandwich, MA.

When he wasn't carving in his studio, you could find Norm on the links at Sandwich Hollows Golf Course, bowling on several Senior Bowling League teams on Cape Cod, or spending time with his family. He had many friends and was known for his sense of humor, and kind and gentle personality. A Celebration of Life service is being planned for the spring. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Norm's memory to the Boy's & Girl's Club of Cape Cod, P.O. Box 895, Mashpee, MA 02649 or visit boysgirlsclubcapecod.org.

My thoughts are with the entire family during this challenging time. Norman was a true "gentle" man whose warmth and sincerity filled my soul. He will be missed by his family and many friends. I will treasure the many happy memories I have made with Judy and him.

Judy, Norman was such a kind and humble man. When someone as special as Norman is taken so suddenly, there will definitely be a pain in the hearts of many. We all join to share in your deep sorrow.

Jill and Scott, I hope the memories of your father provide you with comfort. Keep telling the stories of your favorite memories, you´ll find it will bring great comfort.

Allison, Anna, and Emily you were blessed to have such an amazing grandfather, as Norman. He loved you girls so much and created so many wonderful memories with you. Treasure those memories.

I´m saddened that you´ve all lost such an amazing man. Wishing you peace as you grieve this loss.
