NORRIS SANEHOLTZ Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 12, 2012.
Norris H. "Tony" Saneholtz, age 84, of Napoleon, Ohio, passed away Thursday morning at the Toledo Hospital.
Born March 13, 1928 in Henry County, Ohio, the son of Hugo and Naomi (Saneholtz) Saneholtz. He was a 1946 graduate of Liberty Center High School, where he excelled in athletics. On August 20, 1948 he married Paula Jean Plotts, of Napoleon, who survives. Together they raised five children.
Tony was a distributor for Mobil Oil Corporation for 35 years and the proprietor of Tony's Oil Company for 7 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church of Napoleon.
One of Tony's gifts was the ability to make children smile. He was known to many as "The Bubble Gum Man" for his routine of handing out bubble gum to all the children he encountered.
After retiring in 1990, Tony replaced bubble gum with gold dollar coins. He would give a gold dollar to any child that would be near. No child was a stranger. Tony gave away hundreds of coins in his time. Children were not the sole recipients of his generosity as Tony was a supporter of St. Augustine Catholic School and the Napoleon Athletic Boosters.
Tony enjoyed nothing more than cheering on his family. He and Paula Jean attended an untold number of events that family members were involved with, such as sports and dances. These often ended with "Grandpa Tony" treating the entire team to ice cream.
The family would like to thank the "Coffee Club" at Spengler's for their years of friendship. It meant a great deal to him to participate in the lively discussion and "Honest Farmer". To the "Prayer Meeting" and pinochle pals, thank you for your camaraderie. To all his loyal customers, he had fond memories of you and took great pride in his opportunity to serve you.
Along with his loving wife of 64 years, surviving also are sons David (Karen) Saneholtz, Bowling Green, Ohio, Steven (Cheri) Saneholtz, Whitehouse, Ohio, Ted (Chris) Saneholtz, Dublin, Ohio, Scott (Betsy) Saneholtz, Whitehouse, Ohio; grandchildren Mark, Michael, Matthew, Andrew, Nathan, Marissa, Nolan, Tyler, Joseph, Sydney, Tatum, Ryan, Michele and Renee; seven great grandchildren; brother Paul (Nancy) Saneholtz, Pioneer, Ohio; sisters Ardith (Robert) Masters, Perrysburg, Ohio, Lois (Merl) Bauman, Napoleon, Ohio, Mary (Jerry) Palmer, Napoleon, Ohio and mother-in-law Loretta Plotts, Napoleon, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Raymond H. Saneholtz, brothers Wilber Saneholtz and Orville Saneholtz and sister Lavon Tucker.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Father Dan Borgelt, celebrant. Interment will be made in Grelton Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Walker Mortuary, Napoleon, Ohio on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Augustine School, the Napoleon Athletic Boosters, or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Dave and Steve,
I too remember the days when your Dad would have bubble gum for us for our ball games with the White Sox. It was a special day when he'd have grape bubble gum. He was a really good man.

I am sorry to hear about the passing of Tony. As a child going up in the 60's I have fond memory of your father bringing gum along with the oil. He was a very kind and loving man who brought smiles to our faces. I have one of his gold coins and it sets in my hutch with other family memories.

Steve, Cheri & All of the Saneholtz Family: Please know our thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this difficult time. I remember Tony coming to C. F. Rausch & Sons delivering product and always having bubble gum, kind words and time to ask how your day was going. He would always say something funny to make you laugh and forget your problems. God Bless!
