Norris A. Walecka Sr.

NEW BEDFORD -- Private services were held Wednesday, February 21, 2007, for Norris A. Walecka Sr., 89, who died on Sunday, February 18, 2007, at New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home after a brief illness. He was the husband of Mary V. (Boyle) Walecka. They were married 65 years.

He was born in Acushnet on July 24, 1917. He was the son of the late Adolph and Jane (Heaton) Walecka. He attended New Bedford public schools. He was the founder and retired Chairman of the Board of A. Walecka & Son Moving and Storage. He was active in the business until his 85th year. He was also a Director of the Massachusetts Movers Association for many years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five sons: Norris A. Jr. and his wife, Claire of Fairhaven, Joseph and his wife, Christine of New Bedford, David and his wife, Susan of Guilford, CT, Kenneth and his wife, Debra of Acushnet, Daniel and his wife Anne of Acushnet and one daughter, Jane Murray and her husband Ed of Fairhaven. He was the father of the late Hugh David Walecka. He was the grandfather of Brian, Dr. Kevin and Brett Walecka, Kristen Sosa, Jennifer Sullivan, Ashley and Sarah Walecka, Travis and Kyla Walecka, Christopher and Elizabeth Murray and Nicholas and Bethany Walecka; and the great grandfather of five.

He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Grace Mikina, two nieces who he raised, Joanne Moniz of Holly Hill, FL and Frances Swansey of Cape Cod, a brother, Adolph Walecka and two sisters, Marjorie Findlay and Muriel Hoyle, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Perry Funeral Home.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home for the excellent care they provided to their beloved father.
