HIGH POINT — Robert Lee "Bob" Honbarrier, Jr., 81, of 1528 Thornhill Drive, died early Sunday morning, August 17, 2008, at Pennyburn at Maryfield, where had been a resident for the past eight years and was known as the "King" and self proclaimed "Mayor" of Maryfield.
A funeral service celebrating Bob's life will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20, in First Baptist Church with Dr. Tim Cannon and Rev. David Goehring officiating. Burial will be in Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery.
A resident of High Point most of his life, Bob was born June 1, 1927, in Denton, a son of the late Robert Lee "Bob" Honbarrier and the late Daisy Daniel Honbarrier. After graduating from High Point Central High School, he joined the U.S. Army and served in Korea. Following military service he received his degree from High Point College (now High Point University). Bob first worked with Piedmont Airlines in Winston-Salem, where he met and later married Irene Bowers. He left Piedmont and returned to High Point to join the family business, Colonial Motor Freight Lines, retiring in 1983. A Mason and Scottish Rite Shriner, Bob was a member of Acacia Masonic lodge # 674 AF&AM, recently receiving his 50-year pin. He was a member of First Baptist Church, a past member of the High Point Civitan Club and a past member of the Exchange Club of High Point.
A sister, Francis Honbarrier Davis preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Irene Bowers Honbarrier of the home; two sons, Reginald G. "Reggie" Honbarrier and his wife, Mary, of Wilmington and Roger B. Honbarrier and his wife, Mary Scott, of Wake Forest; two grandchildren, Britt Honbarrier Rimmele and her husband, Ryan, of Hoboken, New Jersey and Robert Scott Honbarrier of Wake Forest; two sisters, Roxie Honbarrier Workman of Charlotte and Carolyn Honbarrier White and her husband, Jack, of High Point; two brothers, Archie L. Honbarrier and his wife, Louise, of High Point and Billy Honbarrier of Baltimore, Maryland.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. tonight, Monday, at Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the sisters and staff at Maryfield.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262, the First Baptist Church, 405 North Main Street, High Point, NC 27260 or to the Maryfield Chapel Fund, c/o Sister Lucy Hennessy, 109 Penny Road, High Point, NC 27260.
Arrangements are by Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.

During the time I knew Bob at Maryfield, I always found him a courteous interested man. He would especially get involved when we played and sang the NC State Fight song during our Tuesday Singing sessions. A good man, a good wife. God Bless!
