Frenchy Greer Obituary

GREER – Frenchy W., 83, of Nanty Glo, passed away suddenly on Dec. 25, 2008, at home. Born July 28, 1925, in Jersey City, N.J., son of the late Frenchy Walter and Fannie Bernice (Braswell) Greer. Preceded in death by grandson, Shane Price. Survived by wife, the former Mildred Phyllis (Davis) Greer, to whom he was married 54 years; son, Thomas Jeffrey Price, married to the former Joyce Waldron; and daughter, Stephanie Greer, all of Nanty Glo; daughter, Melanie, wife of Rick Mendez, of Lolo, Mont.; grandsons, Jeffrey Price and William Mendez; and great-grandson, Logan Price. Also survived by sister, Mrs. Iola (Greer) Barnhill of Vanceboro, N.C. Frenchy was a U.S. Navy veteran and career man, retiring with 23 years in 1973 as a chief petty officer corpsman. Recipient of the National Defense Service Medal with one bronze star. He had attended the Nanty Glo United Methodist Church, and was a member of the Nanty Glo VFW, American Legion, Moose Lodge, U.S. Navy Fleet Reserve and Navy League of the United States. At Frenchy’s request, there will be no viewing. Funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family, with the Rev. John Snyder officiating. Interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements by the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes Inc., Nanty Glo.
