It saddens me to just here about Skip passing. Just thinking about you Skip and Tony takes me back to the teenage days, of the passion 5 hundred Charter Oak, and when the band use to play on Farmington Ave up on the second floor and when we use to come and visit our cousins the Baker family Snip, Flossie , and Johnny. I was at work and i walked by this paper 5 or 6 times and then I decided to pick it up I said to my self this guy looks like I`ve seen him before.I started
reading and lord and behold it was Skip who was telling his story that he had been delivered and saved the paper name was the Point Of View I still hav e this paper and I will forever keep it Di may God bless you and I'll always keep you in my prayer's Love You My Friend Pat Evans- St Elizabeth House- Hartford Ct

Lonnie has been a a wonderful and faithful friend since he moved to Springfield and I will miss his presence tremendously. His gentle spirit and undying encouragment for those he worked with was a true testimony to the Lord he readily served. My grief is only lessened knowing I will see him once again. I am sure the Lord welcomed him as a good a faithful servant for a job well done. May God Bless his children and family.

To the family of Lonnie (Skip) Bowens.
I express love and peace. Growing up from toddlers in C.O.T. to the heyday of the Band. Road Home, Just Boy's in a Mans World, Don't be so mean -were some of the songs. Rides cross town in an old (PINK ELEPHANT) Desoto to chartering busses to the world famous Apollo Theater. Can't forget The Lennox Theater, The Brad Davis Show, opening for the Detroit Wheels at the Bushnell and that wild summer on the Cape. Decked out in formal Tuxes, tails and white shoes. I think back to those synchronized spins the steps the stomping and dancing while playing that ole soul music. Skip you never missed a beat while keeping time on your funky rhyrhm guitar. All fun while it lasted. Father time and fatherhood lead Skip on another journey. I see it like it was yesterday. That holy spirit inside nurtured from bible study at home and sunday school at Hopewell now rejuvenated and it was time to get busy telling all who would listen. Straight from the book of Marvin Gaye "Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing ,Baby" Jesus is Allright. Brother Skip, May you Rest in Peace.

May God bring the comfort so needed at this time to the family and friends of "Skipper" Bowens. I did not know him well, but we attended Hartford High at the same time. The Soul Choppers were a great band, back in the day, and I enjoyed hearing them and watching them perform. They were one of the groups that gave me the courage to sing in the spotlight. His light will always shine bright.

Dianne I know how close you and your brother was, just be strong and keep on doing Gods will.

Be Still
Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.
Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.
If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

To our cousins,
Skipper was a gift, loaned to us for his lifetime. We must remember his joys and learn from his lessons so that we can tell his story as we weave our family history. Marcus, Terrance and Tiana, your father was known and loved by many. Be proud of his accomplishments and his faith in Jesus.
Love,
Linda, Francis, Jr., Stacey.

Remember
Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann'd:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.

Dianne and the Bowens family. I'm so sorry to hear of Skippers' passing.
I have fond memories of you, Skip, Tony, Philip, Carl and Glenn at Hartford High. My brother Bob played trumpet in the Soul Choppers. I remember the rehearsals at your home on Admiral St., all the gigs at The Galaxy Room, Governors Footguard Hall, The Hullabaloo and the Mountain Park "Battle of the Bands". I wish I was with you to see you win at the Apollo those 5 consecutive weeks. Skip and I had a lot of laughs when we shared a cab to go to orchestra practice. We were the first ones in the music room and we would rush to the piano, sit elbow to elbow and bang away. He taught me alot of superb keyboard intros and riffs. I always remembered and loved him for that. Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and my prayers. Rest in peace Skip.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Lonnie since the days of Tony Bowens and the Soul Choppers.. with his unique style of guitar, big afro.. I also met him again 25 years later, and we shared a good friendship. Lonnie lived his life his way. and praise God, I see the Minister before him, and I smile. Diane, I was truly sadden to see Skipper's name in the obituary. We were just talking at The Salvation Army about how great it was when you all came to do the concert for us and we were singing and doing the steps Skipper did to some of the songs. The Lord has called Skipper to sing for him. May God Bless you all at this time. He will surely be missed.

TO: The Bowens Family, May the Lord God continue to comfort you during this difficult time. LB truly love our Lord Savior Jesus Christ, thru his singing and his inexhaustible love for the unfortunate person that need his help to make it in society. It was truly a blessing God put Lonnie in my life. LB show me how to go the extra mile to helping a friend and a love one and the unfortunate person who need our help in this society of homelessness. I will always remember the fond memories that LB and I share at the {sally} Salvation Army in Springfield Ma. on 981 West Columbus Ave. That's where we start the gospel group Second Chance. I will truly miss LB and the friendship and the respect and love we had for one another. May GOD continue to bless the Family. I will always have LB music and love in my heart. Love, Miguel F.
