Grace Nicholson McLees, age 80, of 2277 Oakway Road, and widow of William "Frank" McLees, died Friday, June 1, 2001, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Oconee County on July 3, 1920, Mrs. McLees and her late husband were married for 58 years. She was a homemaker, member of Bethel Baptist Church, and a Sunday School teacher having taught in the Children's Department for 25 years. She was a member of the DAR, Country Garden Club, a charter member of the Westminster Eastern Star and attended Asheville Teachers College.

Survivors include a son, Bill McLees and wife, Susan, of Westminster; daughters, Brenda DeFoor and husband, Harold, of Westminster, and Lynn Hix and husband, Ray, of Westminster; grandchildren, Donna DeFoor Wales and husband, Greg, James Steven Hix and wife, Jennifer, Shera DeFoor Martin and husband, Robert, Dana Hix Fendley and husband, Jason, Stephanie Grace McLees; three great-grandchildren, Rebekah Lynn Wales, Loren Ashley Wales, Robert Coleman Fendley; brothers, Gene Nicholson and Earl Nicholson of Seneca; sister, Elizabeth Palmer of Greenville; and half sister, Joanne Winkler of Seneca.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. McLees was preceded in death by her parents, Louie Oscar and Mirtis Cleveland Nicholson; sister, Louise Wainscott; and half-brother, Carl Nicholson.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. today at Bethel Baptist Church, with Dr. Bob Weathers officiating. Burial will follow in Oconee Memorial Park. The family will be at the residence. The body will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. today. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, South Carolina Affiliate, 2711 Middleburg Drive, Suite 311, Columbia, SC 29204; or Bethel Baptist Church, Vehicle Fund, 160 Bethel Church Road, Westminster, SC 29693. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Myers, Steve Hix, Greg Wales, Robert Martin, Jeff Nicholson, Harry Nicholson and Jason Fendley. - Sandifer Funeral Home, Westminster, in charge of arrangements.
