AKUNE, Shizuka Sue (nee Hisaoka)
November 12, 1913 - February 23, 2012
After 98 years of wonderful life, Shizuka passed away on February 23. With family and sisters at her bedside she entered Nirvana peacefully and gracefully. Predeceased by husband Yuichi of 61 years, daughter Norma, parents Ichirohei and Kin Hisaoka and siblings - Fujiko Okamura, Kimiko Matsunaga and Kenichi, Jiro, Haruo and Isamu Hisaoka. Survived by her loving family - Roy (Itoko), Daisy (Merv) Araki, Robert (Molly), Misaye (Bob) Hamaura, Ted (Rose); grandchildren - Maya (Doug), Kim (Geoff), Marci (Todd), Dean (Julianna), Darrell (Evonne), Wendy, Aaron (Vicky), Charles, Naomi (John), Jennie (Gustavo), Chris (Lynn); great-grandchildren - Ashley, Courtney, Zachary, Ryan, Reiko, Betsi, Elizabeth, Nicolas, Marcus, Alexis, Matthew, and Jayden, sisters - Kasumi, Michie, and Heather, and sisters- in-law - Fran and Tomi. She will be remembered for her gentleness, thoughtfulness and kindness. The family wish to extend a special thanks to the staff of Courtyard Gardens for their wonderful support, care, and kindness. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, March 1, at 11:00 AM at the Steveston Buddhist Temple, 4360 Garry Street, Richmond, B.C., officiated by Rev. Grant Ikuta and Rev. Tatsuya Aoki. Flowers and koden are gratefully declined.
