Mike Angel "Big Mal" Lopez

MIKE ANGEL LOPEZ HAMMOND, IN Mike Angel Lopez "Big Mal", age 64, of Hammond, formerly of East Chicago, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Community Hospital in Munster. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Isabel "Chavela" (nee Moreno); loving children: Monica (Frank) Chavez and Miguel Jr. "Akey" (Ines) Lopez; nine grandchildren; one great grandchild; one sister, Marianela (Obrad) Popovich; four sisters-in-law; and many other family and friends. Preceded in death by his parents: Cruz and Juana Lopez; and brothers: Johnny, Eduardo, Antonio, and Cruz Salvador Lopez. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. from the OLESKA PASTRICK Funeral Home with a 10:00 a.m. Mass at St. Patrick Church, 3802 Grand Blvd., East Chicago with Fr. David Nowak officiating. At rest St. John/St. Joseph Cemetery in Hammond. Friends may visit with the family Friday from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at the OLESKA PASTRICK Funeral Home, 3934 Elm Street (one block north of Columbus Dr/US 12), East Chicago. Mr. Lopez was a retired employee of the American Steel Foundries Co. with over 30 years of service. He was a member of St. Patrick Church. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and a friend to all. After Mike's kidney transplant, he found the power of God's love and spent his last two years devoted to God and the Virgin Mary. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
