SARATA, STELLA M.— Passed away Wednesday, June 16 at the age of 84. She was a teacher in the Jackson Public Schools (Main, Firth and Bennett) for 40 years. Miss Sarata was a graduate of Western Michigan University with a Bachelor's of Science Degree and a Masters Degree in Education. She received the recognition of being selected as "The Teacher of the Year" in 1981. Stella was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish, the Michigan Education Association, National Education Association and the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel. According to her wishes, cremation has taken place, there will be no visitation. A Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, June 23 at St. John Evangelist Church, 10:30 a.m. The Reverend James Shaver officiating. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, John C. and Mary Sarata; a brother in World War II, Sgt. Zigmond (Sophie) Sarata and a sister, Helen P. (Donald) Buck; two nephews, James P. (Laureen) White and Zigmond (Sherry) Kurzynowski. Stella is survived by a brother, Edward P. (Jean) Sarata; two sisters, Sophia E. (Robert) White and Pauline (Frank) Kurzynowski; a niece, Mary (Daniel) Campbell; two nephews, David Buck and Stanley (Mary) Kurzynowski; several grandnieces and grandnephews, Lacey and Brandon Campbell, Miranda and Joseph Kurzynowski, Michael Buck, Christopher White, Collette Kurzynowski. Memorials may be directed to St. John the Evangelist Church, 711 Cooper St., Jackson, MI 49201 or to the charity of your choice.
