Claudia Porter Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 5, 2003.
PORTER, CLAUDIA VALERIE, also known as "Julie" went to be with the Lord peacefully under the care of VITAS Hospice on February 28, 2003. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Sam C. Porter. She is survived by two daughters, Toni Porter Couse of Clewiston, FL and Tracey Porter Bolin of Orlando; sister, Theresa Valle of Orlando; and a brother, Michael Manzi of Armonk, NY; her grandchildren are Andrew and Lauren Couse, Brent, Bryce and Christo Bolin. They fondly called her "Julie" a nickname her mother gave her as a child. Claudia was born in New York City of Italian immigrant parents from Napoli. She met her husband, Sam, during WWII in Bainbridge, MD and they were marred shortly thereafter in New York. After a brief stay in Boulder, CO, where her husband completed his graduate degree, they moved to Orlando in 1948, where they have been life-long residents of College Park. They were both life-long members of First Presbyterian Church in Orlando. She was a fulltime homemaker, who also volunteered 25 years at Orlando Regional Medical Center Auxiliary #177 in the hospitality shop. She loved to travel with her family and friends and even visited Italy, her country of heritage, with her sister Theresa and daughter, Toni. She also enjoyed gardening, walking the Florida beaches, and most of all, being with all 5 of her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed, yet we as a family greatly rejoice because she is reunited with her husband and family in heaven who are with Christ. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation in Claudia's name may be made to VITAS Hospice, 5151 Adanson Street, Suite 200, Orlando, FL 32804. The memorial service will be Friday, March 7th, 11:00 in the morning at the First Presbyterian Church of Orlando, 106 East Church Street in the Reformation Chapel.
