Owen B. Evans Sr.

Dr. Owen B. Evans, Sr. passed away at his home on Friday, June 22, 2007, at the age of 85, following a prolonged illness. Graveside service will be today 4:30 p.m. at Cullman Memory Gardens, Cullman, AL. Visitation will be held from 3-4 at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home in Cullman, AL.
He was a native of Helena, AR. Formerly a resident of Decatur, AL, he lived in Bon Secour, AL, since 1982.
Dr. Evans was a graduate of the University of Arkansas School of Medicine in 1945, and served as a flight surgeon in the US Navy following the end of World War II. After residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at Lloyd Noland Hospital in Fairfield, AL, he was in practice in Decatur, AL, until moving to Bon Secour, AL. He retired in 1989.
Dr. Evans was a devoted husband, father and friend. He was an avid golfer, fisherman and was a past president of Amateur Golf Association of Alabama.
His death was preceded by that of Patricia Claire Evans, his first wife.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Norma L. Evans of Bon Secour, AL; sons, William Fredrick (Dot) Evans and Nicholas Fletcher (Dare) Evans of Cullman, AL, Owen B. (Lynn) Evans JR, MD of Jackson, Robert Patrick Evans of Batesville, AR; daughter, Patricia Kimberly Evans of Auburn, AL; stepsons, Michael Dennis Metz of Hartselle, AL and WAyne Andrew Punjak of Jemez Mountain, NM; grandchildren, Rebecca (Kevin) Evans Cowling of Clarksville, TN, Kathryn (Corey) EVans Schneider, MD and Owen Williams Evans of Jackson, Patton (Ben) Evans Roden of Seattle, WA, Helen (Niven) Evans Bonar of San Diego, CA; Maime Evans Llewelyn of Cullman, AL; and great-grandchildren, Jackson Llewelyn of Cullman, AL, Aiden Schneider of Jackson, and Callum Bonar of Sand Diego, CA; and other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to American Lung Association.
