Olimpia “Pete” Powell, 73, of Nelsonville, passed away Thursday, August 2, 2018 at OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital in Athens. She was born October 21, 1944 in Naples, Italy, daughter of the late Luigi and Anna Sindaco.
Olimpia was a licensed physical therapy assistant.
She is survived by her children, Betsy (Nick) Jones of Portland, Oregon, Becky (Ray) Spoutz of Nelsonville and Heath Powell of Portland, Oregon; special nephew, David (Liz) Keiper of Chicago, Illinois; grandchildren, Brienne Glenn and Kai Powell; brothers, Enzo, Riccardo and Vittorio; sisters, Lia and Tina and many beloved extended family members and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Nicola, Raffaele and Mario and sister, Maria Rosario.
A celebration of life service will be held 3 p.m., Sunday, August 5, 2018 in the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
Olimpia was a life long advocate of the Special Olympics, her inspiration for it touched so many, in her honor, please make memorial contributions in memory of Olimpia Powell to Special Olympics, 1133 19th Street NW, 12th Floor, Washington, DC 20036‐3604.

Such a wonderful caring lady who loved to laugh. She was always willing to help my mother even when she was having a rough time. She will truly be missed but heaven gained a great one.

Betsy, Heath and Becky, it is always so tuff to lose a parent. Whenever I think of your Mom I think of a time when she was in WA and made a group of us her fried spaghetti. I had never heard of fried spaghetti and it was so good. Thinking of all of you.
