Olive Chambers Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 27 to Dec. 31, 2007.
SEVEN SPRINGS - Mrs. Olive Rouse Chambers of 4120 Liddell Road, Seven Springs graduated the surly bonds of earth into the greater presence of God at 6:30 a.m. December 26, 2007, at Lenoir Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Chambers was the widow of Edgar Chambers and the daughter of the late Ed and Chloe Ann Outlaw Rouse. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Melvin C. Rouse, Marvin "Dock" Rouse, James Bryant Rouse and a special cousin Lora Jones Outlaw. Ms. Olive was born in Albertson Township, Duplin County on January 22, 1922. Most of her life was spent on Liddell Road working and raising her family on the family farm. She was also a valued employee of United States Industries from which she retired in 1982. She was a member of Pleasant View Presbyterian Church since the late 1930's when she married. Ms. Olive loved her family. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, friend and neighbor. She loved working in her garden.  She delighted in cooking, but most of all, she loved to feed people. If you came to Ms. Olive's house, one could always expect something wonderful to eat.  Among her many specialties were her wonderful fried chicken and bowls of delicious collards. She also enjoyed quilting and sewing, but especially those outings and trips with her three sisters. She is survived by son Linwood and wife Mildred, of Seven Springs and devoted son Art of the home; and her dog "Peanut". Surviving sisters include Katie R. Alphin of La Grange, Edna Rae R. Sutton of Trenton, and Clara R. Jones and husband Norwood, of New Bern. She is also survived by her grandsons, Alan Chambers and Brent Chambers; step-grandchildren, Sheila Waller, Allen Jackson, Melissa Williams and Amy Hill; 10 step-great-grandchildren; a special niece Eugenia C. Hoy; and special family friend Ricky Kornegay; and her caregivers over the last five years and eight months, Romelia Esparza, Anna Mojara and Diane Capps, and five exchange students for whom she was a grandmother. Family visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. at Howard-Carter Funeral Home on December 27, 2007.  At other times, the family will be at the home of Linwood Chambers, 4046 Liddell Road, Seven Springs.  Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Friday, December 28, 2007, at Pleasant View Presbyterian Church, NC 903 West, Albertson with the Reverend Shirley Bain officiating.  Burial will follow at the Chambers Family Cemetery near the church.
