GRUNDY – Ollie Mae Shortridge Casey, 80 years of age, went to be with the Lord Monday, May 14, 2007, at the Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol Tennessee, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Born in Buchanan County, she was the daughter of the late Montville and Cora Belle Compton Shortridge. She was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was a founding member of the Big Rock Free Pentecostal Church. Ollie graduated from the Clinch Valley School of Practical Nursing in Richlands in 1951. She had worked as a licensed practical nurse for 40 years prior to her retirement, with most of work done as an employee of the Grundy Hospital. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Mrs. Casey was preceded in death by her husband of 15 years, Glenn Charles, December 1966. She was also preceded in death by five sisters and 10 brothers.
She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn and husband Les McClanahan, Abingdon, and Margaret and husband Michael Compton, Lebanon; one son, Stuart and wife Kathy Addair, Tazewell, Va.; and one sister, Emma Shortridge Breeding Shortt, Morristown, Tenn. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Kristen and husband Steven Cox, Roanoke, Va., and Jonathan and wife Jennifer Addair, Denver; two great-grandchildren, William Edward Cox, Roanoke, and Alexander Nicholas Cox, Roanoke; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by an extended family of Bobby and Carol Kay Church of Abingdon, Matthew and Pam Church of Grundy and Gary and Tammy Ramey of Abingdon. Her extended family includes three special grandchildren, Caine Ramey, Abingdon, and Kasey Church and Eric Sullivan of Grundy.
Funeral services for Ollie Mae Shortridge Casey will be conducted Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at 7 p.m. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Jerry Wilson and Sister Piney Mullins officiating, with graveside rites to be held Thursday, May 17, 2007, at 11 a.m. at the Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, Va.
Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Tuesday at 6 p.m., with a song service at 7 p.m. Visitation will be Wednesday at 6 p.m., with the funeral at 7 p.m.
Active pallbearers will be family and friends.
